A New York bus monitor who was berated and bullied by a group of middle school students has received more than $200,000 in online donations.
Karen Klein, 68, is seen in a 10-minute viral video attempting to ignore the verbal attacks by students on a bus operated by the Greece Central School District, near Rochester, N.Y. Children on the bus hurl repeated insults and threats at the grandmother, calling her fat and at one point suggesting that her children commit suicide.
But donations have since poured in for the grandmother in hopes that shell take a vacation of a lifetime, according to fundraising site indiegogo.com. As of midday Thursday, a total of $201,925 had been received for Klein and the video had been viewed on YouTube more than 1.6 million times.

Laws already exist regarding elderly abuse. No further laws are needed, and this should NOT be used by an opportunistic politico to further their career. I’m wondering why this woman did NOT bring the abuse by these “students” to the attention of the bus driver, who has the authority to put an end to such behavior.
If a “monitor” doesn’t monitor for such things... what the heck does a “monitor” monitor for?
Damned good question
I hope the lady sends the nasty little chick a check for $1.00 .......... and a thank you note.
The comments sound sardonic to me. A bunch of tongues are in their respective cheeks here. As is mine to see the sympathy fund... it looks like the school system is a bunch of spineless wimps rather than it being some fundamentally insuperable problem with school kids.
“Elderly abuse” situations generally take place where the elderly in question have no particular authority and are dependent on being cared for. This was a case where the adult was in a position to have been helped but didn’t get the help. It’s not quite the same, like oranges and pomegranates.
Really?
I had a hard time making some of it out, but it seemed to me like it was overwhelmingly boys bullying her.
Great description. I'd pay her so I can swat the azzes of those punks with a paddle
In one video she is in the back seat, that seems to have a group of boys involved.
The ten minute video, I am sure I heard girls voices, unless the boys have not reached puberty yet.
BTW,one of the kids involved father is going to be on Meghan Kelly's show.
I’m encouraged by this support. That video not only made me very mad, but it made me want to smack tohose kids...
It may not be PC but any kid who spews f-words at a grandmotherly woman just doing her job deserves to be smacked.
Like how dare you humiliate my kid by showing him/her misbehaving on a nationally distributed video? In the old days the guy would hide his face until he had personally dealt with the kid.
I watched the whole thing. She heard it, all right. At one point she tried to get through to the kids in the way a loving grandmother would -- they were mocking her handbag, and she showed it to them. It was a fabric printed with virtue words like "integrity." She told them it was words she tried to live by, hoping at least they would show a little curiousity. But these morally neglected demon spawn were too far gone to show the slightest interest.
That woman resembled my own sainted grandmother, who overcame a hard life as an orphan to become the matriarch of a large family and a pillar of her community. The culture was Judeo-Christian and Constitutional in the first half of the last century, so it was possible to do that then with no schooling beyond 6th grade -- and remain a woman of virtue.
My heart goes out to the bus lady, and I hope she is able to retire without having to subject herself to any further abuse from other people's guttersnipes. Now I'm going to go send her my five bucks. Hope thousands more people do the same.
I’ll wait to see what he has to say, but nothing less than buckle end of the belt is warrented IMHO
Ya know, I hope she uses it to sue the hell out of that school district (and the worst kids’ parents) eight ways from Sunday and sideways too. She could create a lot of lawyer hell for them with that stash.
Lady, step up to the plate. A whole country wants to see you answer this B.S., good and hard. It’s really sad that the only spine seems to be left in a few courts, but if that’s where it is to be had, well it ought to be used.
I just wish she would have done her job a bit more that is all. She was sitting....I would have gotten up and got in their face and told them to sit the heck down. Oh well she won and will become a weathy woman from it.
It may not be PC but any kid who spews f-words at a grandmotherly woman just doing her job deserves to be smacked.

Agree. But first see if you pass the qualifying test.

Why can’t they bring those little a-holes up on bullying charges, especially the one who put the video up on youtube?
Such punishments should never, ever be used for trivial reasons (as an extreme case the bizarre story about the man who beat his young boy for making fumbles in a ball game, getting in well deserved dutch with California for it) but if a kid, being raised in a family where he [or she, etc.] is taught that kindness should be one’s first choice, is then deliberately and voluntarily going out of his way to hurt people either physically or with a barrage of cruel words... well THEN the kid ought to feel some pain too. Then maybe he/she will get the sense that he ought not to be out there wishing pain on strangers gratuitously.
YouTube video of her own reaction to the abuse. Her final words were so touching.
They — the kids, NOT the bus driver — put it on You Tube? They really thought they were untouchable, didn’t they?
Your post touched my heart. Karen looks a tiny bit like my beloved grandmother, too. She had a weight problem but was so kind and loving towards me. It also touches my heart that so many Americans are reaching out to help her. That is what America does best: private charity and caring for others.
I want to donate a buck to the cause. I wonder if anyone knows how to do this?
