While Erica Howard-Potter manages her job as a high-powered tax attorney, her husband Jake Howard-Potter manages the house, the chores and the couple's very active 2-year-old daughter, Skyler.
Jake, who is a sculptor by trade, is the epitome of the so-called "trophy dad." The 37-year-old stays at home and stays fit, completing triathlons one day and expertly negotiating naptime and tea parties the next. And he is not alone.
"I had a dad say to me 'that skirt is really cute' and I thought who would have imagined that two dads would be sitting at swim class saying that a skirt is cute," he said.
According to the most recent Census, the number of stay-at-home fathers in the United States has tripled in the past 10 years up to 154,000. Yet, these at-home dads are still the exception to the traditional household and many treading in unchartered parenting waters.

The true goal of the left is the total destruction of the traditional family,
and this topic is but one of the cracks in that institution.
Flame suit on, but I’m going to tell a truth, and it will make some mad.
Though I recognize that for some this is a short term necessity, it should not be “normal”, nor should it be considered even acceptable, long term, that the man stays at home while the woman takes on the role of provider.
I’m not saying that it doesn’t happen, just noting that the timing of this article comes on the heels of bad unemployment news. Smells to me like ABC is trying to spin part of the unemployment figure for their fellow traveler in the White House.
Kind of like the “funemployed” articles in 2010...
I guess it’s verboten to say men are better suited to work outside the home and women are better suited to stay home and raise the children.
My career oriented wife figured that out about 5 minuted after our daughter was born.
BARF........
Actually, though I’m not good at it, I like to braid my daughters’ hair, and they like me doing it. It’s a bonding thing.
Only "verboten" where the left has the power to "verbot" it. The truth is an enemy to their ideological father.
You won’t get any guff from me.
I totally agree.
I will tell you though, I have seen women stay at home and turn the children against the father. Every once in a while you’ll get that gem that has no restraining bolt whatsoever.
Men could do that too though, so I’m not trying to make the case it could only be one-sided.
Fishbone or French?
Couldn’t have said it better!
I thank the Creator for the fathers who take care of the children. There is no substitute for those who care. God bless the parents (biological or otherwise!)
From his bio:
“Howard-Potter grew up in New York City...”
Sounds like a lib, who had 2 ‘homo daddys’, who gave him the hyphenated name. Nah. That bio isn’t giving any real background for me to make that reach.
You got that one right.
I’m a stay at home father.
Although I’m divorced and my kids are grown and out of the house.
Life is good :-)
I take care of my daughters part time and work part time building a business. I’m able to do so because I spent many years as a single guy making good money while living very modestly. Now that I am married I can work from home and also provide good parental care for my children. Nobody needs to give me an allowance and none of my appendages need to fall off.
I found another guy with hyphenated name: Ambrose Evans-Pritchard. I went back to his father’s bio - EE Evans-Pritchard - but no family background history on the two names.
