Carrie Underwood Supports Gay Marriage
US Magazine ^ | June 11, 2012 | Nicole Eggenberger

Posted on 06/11/2012 3:07:58 PM PDT by Pinkbell

It may come as a surprise to some of her fans, but Carrie Underwood has announced her support for gay marriage.

The devoutly Christian "Jesus, Take the Wheel" country singer spoke out to The Independent on why she believes marriage should be legal for all.

"As a married person myself, I don't know what it's like to be told I can't marry somebody I love, and want to marry," Underwood, 29, explained. "I can't imagine how that must feel. I definitely think we should all have the right to love, and love publicly, the people that we want to love."

The American Idol winner was raised in a Baptist church, but now attends a non-denominational church with her hockey player husband, Mike Fisher.

"Our church is gay friendly," she said. "Above all, God wanted us to love others. It's not about setting rules, or [saying] 'everyone has to be like me'. No. We're all different. That's what makes us special. We have to love each other and get on with each other. It's not up to me to judge anybody."

And the Christian star from Oklahoma doesn't agree with "people who use the Bible for hate."

"That's not how I would want myself as a Christian to be represented."

I have known people who have been long time separated from a spouse who REFUSES to sign divorce papers PROHIBITING them from marrying someone else.

Now how can someone you do not even live with and who does not protest you co-habitating with someone else PREVENT you from getting married?

Wow! That's a great argument and one that never even occurred to me.

The problem with most of the arguments for homosexual marriage is that the arguments they use can be used to justify almost any type of union. What most of us fail to remember is that marriage was not set up for "two people who looooove each other", it was set up for procreation and the legal protection of children. That's why marriage unites 2 separate families, parents pass property to their children , (traditionally) only 2 married people could adopt. Even societies like ancient Greece & Rome never acknowledged homosexual marriage, even though homosexuality was accepted by those cultures.

I never understood the appeal of “non-denominational” Christianity. It’s like saying you prefer the taste of ALDI cola over Pepsi or Coke. If Carrie Underwood’s church supports gay marriage, it may be “non-denominational” but it’s certainly not Christian. Traditional Christianity would never embrace gay marriage.

I didn’t realize how money and success could completely corrupt someone’s moral being! But, the more I see these idiots speak out, the more I realize that money and success are the only things they have in common!

I think it is more of a case of being ignorant. She calls herself a Christian, yet she doesn't bother to learn about Christ, or about the Word of God which talks about Christ in nearly every page of the Bible. She wants to take Christ as her Saviour, but not as Lord.
It doesn't work that way.
He said: [Matthew 5:17-18] Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

We are all sinners, but once we have been saved by the Lord we want to please Him. If we love Him we will keep His commandments (1 John 5). We repent from our sins and turn from them. Sure, we still stumble while we are in the flesh, but we don't live in and celebrate sin. When He saved the woman caught in adultery (John 8) He told her to go and sin no more.
Telling someone that you support their living in sin is wretched. This is said either in cowardliness (preferring the praise of the world rather than God), in callousness (deeming the immortal soul of the sinner not worth saving by warning of the doom ahead), or ignorance (never bothering to read God's word, but let others tell you about it, and telling you to focus on the warm, fuzzy platitudes ... and excluding the meat).

Maybe you are right, that she said this thinking it would promote her career, but I believe she spoke due to profound ignorance.

The goal is smash monogamy and destroy the institution of marriage, a foundation of man’s civilization.

Feminists equated marriage with slavery and subservience.

Libertines equated it with a restriction on sexual liberty.

Homosexuals call it a barrier to equality.

The number of homosexuals in the country are 2-3%. 10% at the most exaggerated figure. Over 10% homosexual population in the press, journalism, and broadcast/film media.

Not every homosexual wants to be married (call it less than half). 33% of liberals are NOT arguing on behalf on 1% of self-described homosexuals seeing a longterm relationship.

The pioneers of same-sex marriage are already seeking to alter marriage laws in states like Texas by seeking same-sex divorces in states that don’t recognize same-sex marriage.

It is about subverting law, not about commitment or “the chil’run”.

I've seen several of Mark Kehler's CrossTV presentations, and I agree that they are excellent.
The best preacher I ever heard was Alan Cairns. He's retired now, but you can find many of his sermons on SermonAudio.com

You might be surprised. I see nothing in the Constitution restricting gay marriage. Equal protection under the law.

Because until the last part of the 20th century, the word marriage was defined as between a man & woman. It would be as silly to define marriage in the constitution as it would to define air or water, it was one of those things that was just a given.

Really? Who are you to say? Christianity is what God says not what people say. BTW, I prefer Coke.

I never really cared about Carrie Underwood anyways, so there’s nothing new here.

The only issue which I do take point is this, according to the Bible, the act and the individual are not inherently one and the same, but the Bible regards the behavior as something separate from the person, which is something that liberalism seems to be totally the opposite of: you commit a certain behavior, then that behavior defines you in every way.

People already marry animals to each other. The big point is, no one is even required to care in those cases.

Just a given? The founding Fathers new better. If it was not mentioned in the Constitution it is not prohibited. Defined by who?
