Texas Speaker of the House Joe Straus was deleted from the list of delegates to the 2012 Republican National Convention by a woman on the Nominations Committee who put herself on the list in his place.
Agree. RINO is over used but fits Straus to a T.
I’ve seen Romney flip-flop too many times. He has been supportive of illegal aliens in the past — he may say he’s opposed to them now, but he would, wouldn’t he? I just assume he’d take the Liberal view once elected and come out in favor of amnesty.
Oh OK
so Strauss was against the Conservatives...
Now i understand the Pelosi mention...
Abuse of power? Look at Joe Straus, he collaborative with democrats against Texas Conservatives.
She got rid of Joe Straus, who’s office was of serous consequence to the people of Texas. If you can say she had any offence here in how she did it, it was minor.
Should she have selected someone else to replace Joe? Yes.
But truth be said I don’t really care any Actual republican is better than backstabbing Joe. To be honest I think this is poetic Justice for Joe.
It’s a North Texas vs South Texas thing. Lot’s of North and West Texas Republicans were upset about Craddick being ousted after the 2008 election when the House was 76-74 Repblican, and the last House seat was won by.just 19 votes. Many Republicans not on.the Gulf Coast were also upset about the windstorm insurance bill in 2009.
Will he flip-flop?
I don’t know, and am still on the fence over whether to vote for him in November. BHO2 is so evil, so obviously communist and determined to destroy the U.S.A., that I may have to choke-back tears of frustration and vote for Mitt.
That said, I suspect Mitt Romney has two goals other than being elected President: to put one up on his father’s legacy, and to fulfill the LDS prophecy concerning a Mormon as President saving the United States.
That prophecy is very powerful among Mormons. We shouldn’t underestimate its power on Bishop Romney. He may surprise everyone.
Please don't try to hijack a thread about TX politics. I'm sure you know as much about Joe Straus as I do about the TN Speaker of the House.
They dont know that Straus was elected by the Democrats and refused to let the largest Republican majority in Texas history chose the speaker.
So is lone star and Monorprise correct about the re-redistricting and Straus working to bounce conservatives and his working with Dems to do it?
Joe is the quintessential Rino. His wife is, I think, stlll a muckety-muck in Planned Parenthood.
Straus and his people pumped thousands of dollars into "Tuffy" Hamilton's race after Hamilton moved so he could run against James White...an incombant Black conservative.
Are you familiar with Wayne Christian? He was redistricted and got beat. Straus really wanted him gone.
Are you sure it was an insurance problem? I'm not surprised that people unaffected by hurricanes would be upset. Being hit by Rita, I know what hurricanes can do...and I'm not on the coast. I haven't heard anything about insurance and hurricanes.
Whoa........
“They dont know that Straus was elected by the Democrats and refused to let the largest Republican majority in Texas history chose the speaker.”.....
I need to really start paying attention to our state and local politics....I just take it for granted that TX goes republican and my vote has no national impact but this type of local politics is crazy.
More that Strauss is no conservative. Indeed, the most liberal of all state officials. He stacked committees to block as many conservative actions as possible. Not easy when Republicans numbered 102 out of 150 in the House.
Yes, that’s what really irks me.
ok now this guy Straus is on my list........thanks for the info.
And that is the truth!
You asked about Straus.
Straus was elected Speaker in 2009 by 11 Republicans and 65 Democrats. He promptly gave half the committee chairs to Democrats.
He opposed a bill that would have banned gay adoption.
He killed the TSA bill last session in retaliation for the author David Simpson’s opposition to him.
He owns a huge racing park outside of San Antonio and will push to legalize gambling next session.
His wife was on the board of Planned Parenthood.
Straus has hinted several times that he believes opposing abortion shouldn’t be on the republican platform.
Most important, Straus holds power by running moderates against conservatives in the primaries. Most of his opponents found themselves primary’d this time around - fortunately most won.
The only reason this election wasn’t as bad as it was for conservatives was because 1. Straus had a primary opponent, and 2. there were 50 opens seats and Straus and his cohorts couldn’t focus on just a few seats. This means that they could only give 50-100k to key races instead of 3-500k.
Straus needs to go. He’s anti-conservative and only nominally Republican.
If the nominations lady did what was said, that was wrong and it should have been caught by the whole committee. Having said that, I love the irony of it. This is exactly the kind of game Straus would play and it’s sweet to see him bit by his own tactics.
Ignore Tennessee Nana. Her deep hatred of Mitt Romney clouds her judgment. Don’t let her “get your goat”; so to speak.
