Sebelius: Well be ready if Supreme Court strikes healthcare law By Elise Viebeck - 06/07/12 11:53 AM ET
President Obama's top health official told an audience Thursday that the administration will be prepared to react if the Supreme Court strikes down its healthcare reform law.
Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said she is "confident and optimistic" that the high court will uphold the law, but added "we'll be ready for contingencies" if it does not.
The remark, at a White House town hall on women's health, comes as the president and Democrats brace themselves for the court's decision, which is expected by the end of the month.
A report last week said Obama has privately expressed concerns he could have to revisit healthcare issues in a second term an attitude that contradicts the confidence he's expressed publicly that the court will rule in the law's favor.
"Frankly, we're just working as hard as we possibly can to get ready for 2014," when new portions of the law will be implemented, Sebelius told the friendly audience Thursday.
"It's best to anticipate that the law is fully constitutional. ... Some of the deadlines are pretty daunting," she said.
The ruling could come at 10 a.m. on any business day before the end of June, when the Supreme Court will finish its session.
Sebelius called healthcare reform "the most important women's health law in at least 50 years" on par with Medicare.
"We've been talking to women throughout the country about the Affordable Care Act and about how this law is already impacting their lives," she said. "What the law meant for them is peace of mind.
"Whatever the circumstances
care will be there. Affordable prices will be there. Coverage will be there that you need."
Not precisely true. The House voted to repeal it. Need to keep the House, take the Senate and presidency to finish it off - or what's left of it after the Supremes decision.

“Sebelius” is Communist for “Traitor”
Thanks Sub-Driver.

Obama is pretty confident of winning a second term. That would be as bad as the health care law or worse !
I get the feeling they might not do it that way this time.
Try to avoid any political leanings.
I thought it was Dr Obamma’s blue pill, or was it the red pill?
How did the good people of Kansas ever see fit to elect that monstrosity? THINK BEFORE YOU CAST YOUR VOTE!!!!
Here...have an “inhalator” or a “breathalyser” and a pain pill. There fixed. Lub Dub...Lub Dub...Lub Dub...
Lighten up Kathleen. Don’t you have some armpits you can go smell or something?

Yep. They are going to try and pretend the ruling does not change anything.
But that ham handed finger in the Court’s and congress’ eyes will be front and center and seven out of ten voters want that program all or partially scrapped.
Unfortunately, it can’t be Romneycare Myth who will be able to talk much about it and neither of the Republican leaders seem to have voice boxes.
How can that be? The tanning tax applies 'equally' to everyone that goes to tan.
You don't have to be nearing some arbitrary expiration date to be feeling the effects of obamacare. Every year since this abomination has passed, premiums at my company have gone up and our coverage cut. Right now we're on a plan with such high deductibles that people have to save all year for anything more than wellness visits. I guess it's too expensive to actually make coverage available for everyone, so they're working to cut everyone back to where the uninsured were to begin with, only they're forcing us to pay their insurance cronies for the privilege.
That’s not coverage you “need”, that’s coverage you “want”. You just have to trust our betters in DC, to decide what you need.
IF that happens, then the country is saved, because that means we have people with some horse sense. If it comes down to a 5 to 4 vote, then Romney damn well better pick the right people on the court as he’ll probably have the chance.
I’m hoping for a 6 to 3.
They will keep your heart for an Obamma surrogate..dems are the only ones worth saving..
And when does the tax on medical equipment take place? If that’s already started, it’s impacting our lives.
Line.
Sand.
Drawn.
They can kiss my rebel ass!
If 5-4 for Obamacare to remain in place, watch new lawsuits come out of the woodwork about the 1000 plus waivers already in place. Think equal protection under the law. I'm surprised such suits haven't surfaced yet, but I guess everyone is waiting on this decision.
Without the additional funding of the individual mandate requirement which is the foundation of Obamacare for financial viability, how can the rest survive? Would it not be an empty shell that the States and companies and individuals could just ignore? What's Holder going to do? Arrest all of us? Can the IRS withhold millions of tax returns or carry through with a penalty that runs contrary to a USSC decision? I doubt it and no one will stand for that.
My problem is with all the bureaucratic agencies and jobs already in place. Somehow, someone, will change the names of the agencies and job descriptions to allow those Fedgov employees to remain in place.
Once an agency exists, it never goes away. They need only to change the names to something like The Bureau of Healthcare Reform or some such nonsense with sub-groupings such as Bureau of Healthcare Statistics and be redundant with other HHS agencies. Sure Sebelius/Obama will find a way to keep those suck-up jobs and Congress won't have the nerve to eliminate them since the Dims will cry "it's for the wimmins and chillens".
