The German Sport Guns .22LR STG-44 is the newest addition to the exciting line of GSG firearms.
The demo was introduced at SHOT Show 2012, but now consumers will be able to see, handle and shoot the GSG STG-44 from ATI for the first time. The STG 44 (Sturmgewehr 44, literally Storm Rifle) was designed in 1944 in Nazi Germany and is considered by many historians to be the first modern assault rifle.

It is available with 10 or 25 round capacity magazines and comes shipped in an Eastern Pine box hand-crafted by the Amish in the mountain region of New York state. I was looking at guns at a local Wal-Mart. They had several AR style guns in the under $1000.00 range. Then I spied a Sig Sauer at just under $500 only to be disappointed.
It was a .22LR. Still a nice looking rifle.
.22? Meh, now if they’d make it in 7.62X39...
still pricey though.
It looks cool but $600 for the functional equivalent of a Ruger 10/22 seems pretty pricey
Enough with the small caliber crap! If there’s no prominent exit wound, it’s only fencing.
Why would anyone want a 22 that looks like an assault rifle?
“Enough with the small caliber crap! If theres no prominent exit wound, its only fencing.”
I am with you, if a caliber has to start with at least the holy number 4.
To practice. Look at the ATI Ak-47 in 22 caliber. It’s the same dimensions as a real AK-47. Incredibly accurate out of the box too - or maybe I’m just a perfect shot (no, I’m not).
I don’t have money to blow on 7.62 x 39 just to practice for no particular reason on a Saturday morning. But I have plenty of dough to spend on thousands of .22.
That’s an expensive varmint gun.
Buy a used Marin 60 for about $40 to kill the rats and crows.
Then spend the other $540 on ammo for your real self-defense weapons, on long-term storage food and other preps for emergencies.
Last weekend I was at a local amateur tactical shoot at a range near me. There was a guy that used the ATI GSG-5. When his run was complete, he sure did have a big smile on his face. A fun day at the range with cheap ammo is hard to beat.
Our governor Cueball will be upset.
Oh goody, another duded up 10-22.
My brother in law handed me an old Marlin 60 to repair in return for his plumbing services. He knows squat about guns except how to pull the trigger.
His son lost the magazine tube capture rod - ordered and replaced.
DIRTY as hell - never been cleaned...a little cumbersome on breakdown to clean thoroughly but once I understood that not too bad at cleaning. I spent quite a few hours on cleaning it up sanding/restaining/coating the stock, etc. but it was a beauty when I gave it back to him.
The next thing I did was to go buy a new one and put a good scope on it....a damned good reliable accurate plinker for around $150..
9mm Lugar?
I noticed several years ago, well a lot of years ago that the Marlin model 60 and it’s variations tended to be far more accurate than the average .22 rifle.
A couple of them I owned have been true tack drivers. What is really great is the price. They tend to shoot far better than stock 10/22s which I otherwise appreciate as great rifles.
My thoughts too - recently picked up a Ruger 10/22 and paid less than $300 including a spare 10-round mag and tax. Fine and simple weapon and very accurate, especially nice with the .22 LR Hyper Velocity rounds - they flatten it out so you don't have to adjust when moving between 50/100 yds.
They were chambered for the 7.92X33 Kurtz otherwise known as the 8MM short. It was basically a shortened version of the 8MM Mauser.
It was chambered in 7.92x33 just a bit differant then the 7.62x39 use in the AK47
