TRIPOLI, Libya The former Libyan intelligence officer Abdel Baset al-Megrahi, who was convicted of the 1988 Lockerbie bombing, has died in Libya, his brother told AFP on Sunday.
"He died an hour ago," Abdelhakim al-Megrahi said, putting the time of death at shortly after 1:00pm local time.
The UK Foreign Office could not confirm the report Sunday, however it said it was "seeking further information."
Megrahi, 60, was convicted in a Scottish court in 2001 for his role in the December 1998 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103. Most of those killed in the bombing of the Boeing 747 jet were Americans.
All 259 passengers and crew died in the tragedy, along with 11 people on the ground.
Megrahi was released on compassionate grounds in 2009 and allowed to return to Libya. Doctors said at the time that he had terminal cancer and only three months left to live.

Yes, and if I remember correctly it was Ronald Reagan who sent Khadafy a little Christmas present in reponse. No, the destruction of Pan Am 103 in 1988 was in response to the air strikes against Libya including Gaddafi compound in 1986.

And the attack on Gaddafi's compound in 1986 was i response to a bombing of a discotheque in Berlin, killing 3 persons among those two US soldiers. A message congratulating the perps to a job well done between Libya and the Libyan embassy in East Berlin was intercepted.
Many years later the name of the man behind the bombing was found in the Stasi archives and eventually the Libyan, two Palis (surprise, surprise) and the wife of one of the Palestinian were convicted in Germany.

They freakin’ release him and he dies 3 years later. So in other words the guy could have been at a high risk for a heart attack and they still would have released him judging by how long it took him to die. Chalk up example #345 billion on how effin’ insane liberals are, although IMHO nothing beats Obama and Holder fanatically trying to get Khalid Sheik Mohammed tried as a US citizen with full constitutional rights so he would have a better chance at being sprung. Oh yes, and being tried in New York city in the former shadow of the WTC no less to rub it in the faces of the victims families when it happened.

And a True Hero of Islam goes home to be with Allah.
I expect the ground-breaking of the Megrahi Victory Mosque in Tripoli to commence within the week.

The most amazing thing is that he was greeted as a hero in Libya. 'Cultures of death' (Islam), do just that for any who murder Americans. They see violence and murder as a blessing from their false God Allah..and always will honor these despicable men in Islam. Many of their leaders admit to loving death, honoring these murders will continue.

A very well-done post indeed, Doughty One....and a perfect dissection of the make-up of the sub-humans infesting Islam.
May they all suffer the tortures of eternal hellfire for their twisted thoughts and murderous deeds.
