“toot toot ahhh beep beep”
Sucks indeed, loved her stuff.
RIP
Sad news, I just got a total flashback to those disco days.
RIP Donna Summer, you got a lot of people up on the dance floor and that’s a good thing.
I just saw this on my homepage. I LOVED Donna Summer. She was one classy lady. Prayers up for her family. They’ll never be another like her. :(
That was my favorite song of hers.
I remember spending a lot of Friday and Saturday nights in the 1970’s whirling and twirling ladies aroudn the dance floor to “Last Dance.”
I also remember watching some of her live performances on TV, and thinking that every straight male in the audience had to be envious of her microphone.
Yeah, disco wasn’t good music, I preferred funk, but disco brought dance partners back in touch, and dancing together.
RIP - Love to Love You Baby!
Her version of O Holy Night is amazing. RIP Donna.
Rest in peace Donna Summer.
May she RIP.....
63 is just too young to die.... but then, I am 63.
I loved her “disco” style music. She recorded some great songs - MAC Arthur’s Park was a classic. RIP
The song “hot stuff” comes to mind...
I wonder if her condition was anything like what Farrah Fawcett had.
...yep...
So you spent 1977-1984 without getting any, huh?
Disco sucked so much that it filled clubs nationwide for years.
I was not much of a dancing guy, but the club was the place to be.
Donna Summer was one of the better, more successful ones.
The only good disco song was Zappa’s “Dancing Fool.”
That was coming-of-age for me and my big brother.
One night we went to a disco, because we were bored. And besides that, it was Cheap Pitchers of Beer night.
So we're sitting there having our beer, watching other people dance. There's a young guy out there who looks and dances just like John Travolta. He was pretty good actually, but we were into rock'n'roll, so we were contemptuous, as required.
And then the DJ put Dancin' Fool on the turntable, whereupon Travolta gets all pissed off, and stomps off the floor.
You know you've had a good laugh, when you wake up the next morning, and your stomach muscles hurt.
I did! I CELEBREATED! I was so glad when Disco finally bit the dust. The '70s were bad enough without Disco!
I’m really sorry to hear this - she died young, by modern standards. She was a great performer, and disco was a lot of fun.
It wasn’t filthy and hostile, it was sexy without being gross, and it was also easy dancing music (strong beat) and the clubs were fun whether people danced or not. The clubs weren’t too serious or pretentious, and they were also very multi-racial and even, shall we say, multi-sexual (lots of gay guys). But it was all fun.
The closest thing to this now are the Latin clubs, where you have the same happy music, good beat, very mixed population, and it’s all fun. The only thing you have to do is dress well but that’s fun in itself. Just like disco.
Donna, I loved you and your music. period!!! RIP, Queen & Princess of disco!!!
Agreed. Rush said on his program today he was on the same airplane she and her husband were. They came over and introduced themselves telling him they were Christians to the right in politics. He also said she was dressed to the T’s and was a beautiful woman. Her husband was quite handsome and they seemed to love each other very much. Rush said he was in awe.
