Vt. becomes 1st state to ban hydraulic fracturing
Fuel Fix ^ | May 17, 2012 | Associated Press

Gov. Peter Shumlin on Wednesday signed into law the nation’s first ban on a hotly debated natural gas drilling technique that involves blasting chemical-laced water deep into the ground.

The Democrat, surrounded at a Statehouse ceremony by environmentalists and Twinfield Union School students who pushed for the ban, said the law may help Vermont set an example for other states. The ban may be largely symbolic, though, because there is believed to be little to no natural gas or oil beneath the surface in Vermont.

The gas drilling technique, called hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, involves the high-pressure injection of water and chemicals into the ground to split rock apart and release natural gas or oil.

Vermont, where nobody drills for oil/gas and they want to keep it that way.

Vermont’s decision is fine with me. However, states that do frac for oil and gas should not ship any fuel to Vermont either.

Neither the Marcellus or Utica shale formations extend into Vermont.

I agree. There must be some seriously power crack up in Vermont. Those people are off the deep end.

Extended further,
a law should be proposed that states that anyone who advocates for alternative energy by suppressing “fossil” fuel usage must eschew using fossil fuels or any energy derived from them.

I guess they pride themselves on being independent. Maybe the Fed should cut off all assistance to them and let them stand on their own.

They're in the syrup business.

Little potential for fracking so the law is no big deal.

Psst....population 626,000.

Pure stupidity. First, there is no reason to conduct fracturing in granite.

Vermont is a socialist state who’s enlightened leaders want to lead it boldly into the 19th century.

This reminds me of what a previous governor of Ohio did a number of years ago when companies were leaving the North to take advantage of lower costs in the South. The governor said that any company that left OH must pay the state a sum equal to six months wages. After about six months, the governor and his stupid colleagues couldn’t figure out why new business formations in OH were virtually zero. To their credit, they took the “exit tax” off the books. Idiots...

No shale plays are known to extend that far.

Vermont has no proved reserves of oil or gas, conventional or non-conventional.

This was a meaningless gesture with no impact other than a media play.

Actually, there is one good reason. There is no oil or gas plays in Vermont.

According to the Tax Foundation, Vermont’s Federal Allotments vs. Taxes Paid ratio is 1.08.....

This is all about liberal feelings and setting themselves up to be morally superior in their own mind.

They'll be banning off-shore drilling and off-shore wind farms in their land-locked state next....throw in a moratorium of excessive palm tree cutting, for good measure....

“Psst....population 626,000. “

...of which 625,900 are flaming libs. I have family throughout VT. Been there dozens of times. Filthy, Birkenstock wearing Marxists. They’ll key your car if you have the wrong sticker. Egg your house if you have the wrong yard sign. I wore a shirt in the Burlington Mall once with “Don’t Tread On Me”. Skinny little bastards looked like they wanted to give me trouble. Would’ve relished the opportunity if presented. Which it wasn’t. Guess they were obeying their “no bullying” laws. BWAHAHAHAHA.
