Edgy filmmaker Bobcat Goldthwait is sick of the dumbing-down of America thanks to reality television, and has brought to life the dark comedy God Bless America to serve as a wake-up call regarding the downward spiral of our culture.
The tipping point was that I was in London and they had a My Super Sweet 16 marathon on and there I was watching teenage girls throwing fits because their parents bought them the wrong BMW. I was aghast, then a ringtone commercial about an elephant breaking wind. I was offended, Goldthwait told FOX411s Pop Tarts column. So this is a violent movie about kindness. Social media is accelerating, people no longer have conversations. They just comment.
God Bless America centers on Frank (Joel Murray) who accidentally teams up with high school student Roxy (Tara Lynne Barr) who shares his loathing for stupid, intolerant individuals particularly irritating reality stars. Together they travel across the United States, armed and dangerous with nothing to lose, in an attempt to take out those who deserve it and those who contribute to societys decline.

Nothing will top the prophetic movie Idiocracy.

The Kardashians make the people in Idiocracy look like geniuses.
Bobcat Goldthwait is still around?
I’ll stick with Matt and Trey.
Linkee not workee.
Seriesly, though, it sounds like Bobcat grew up. Not a zing - I know it takes some of us [*embarrassed look*] longer than others.
I remember the Bobcat telling us that Bill Clinton was “obviously the better choice” over Bob Dole. I’m no Dole fan but at the time it would have been sweet if the spoiled Boomer Prez had been upended by the severely wounded WWII vet.
You had me until . . .
“I was offended, Goldthwait told FOX411 . . . “
Goldthwait offended. Yeah, that would happen.
Who said I needed to pay to watch it?
Whoops, just read the review at post #4 - so much for the “growing up” theory.
Bobcat was great in the movie “Scrooged”.
Singing Santa Claus in coming to town while trying to blast Bill Murray with a shotgun.
classic.
re: “Nothing will top the prophetic movie Idiocracy.”
Absolutely correct!! If anyone reading here has never seen this - watch it. It is not kid-friendly language-wise, but it speaks volumes of truth. One of my favorite characters was the Chairman of the Dept. of Education.
I didn’t care for the movie and it was nothing new at all. The story has been done before. It is a typical Magnet/Magnolia film.
I know I’m offended by this.
Really, the girl is holding an SKS when she should be using an American made AR-15. The only reason the producers went with the SKS is because you KNOW they’ll call it an ‘Ak-47’ in the promotional materials.
