This case is a frightening example of what can happen when a photographer encounters ignorant bullies with badges. According to the complaint filed in Federal Court, Nancy Genovese, a mother of three, was driving home on County Road 31 past Gabreski Airport in Suffolk County. Gabreski Airport displays a decorative helicopter shell by the roadway to the public, which is visible to all who pass by.

Oh, I see. I got my dates mixed up. This happened in 2009 but a I found an article that said a Federal Judge ruled against the Genovese lady in February 2011.

I just don't see how this didn't gain a minimal amount of grassroots following country-wide if it's all true. Also, How did this police Lt. carry on for 2 years until retirement without any of the townsfolk throwing an uproar. In fact, if the PD was that fascistic how has there not been more instances of abuse or people making huge lawsuits against the town?

According to the text of the original story posted, the allegation that she went there previously to take pictures and was warned not to, is a lie.

Also, what version of the event did you expect “newsday” to publish?? Certainly not hers.

I didn't read the entire article - does it mention anywhere that this is also a military installation?

That could make a decent amount of difference. We're only getting one side of the story. Perhaps this person and/or her family has some sort of reputation in the county already and when a LEO see's her lurking around a military installation he gets the wrong (or right) idea.

Either that or she planned it all on purpose. Either way, I already posted a link to an article where a federal judge denied a judgement on the case. All this is very odd when almost all the information you can find is only on a bunch of blogs and from the victim's attorney.

Deputy Carlock said he would “find something in order to teach all right wingers and tea baggers a lesson” plus denying her legal representation or medical help for hours.
