I relate to Glen in that he’s such a versitle axe-slinger that he can take any gig and own it. I didn’t list a fraction of his resume but tried to hit the “big-name icons”. He’s played on over 150 albums and a third of them were either solo or his own bands including L.A. Blues Authority, The Hughes - Turner Project and Hughes/Thrall. He currently suppliments his work with Black Country Communion by guesting with The Slam (Little Angel) and other European groups.

Glen had a very rough bout of cocain addiction in the early eighties that almost killed him and sidelined his career for years due to ill-health. That he was able to clean himself up and come back better than ever is remarkable ... he turns 62 years-old in August and inspires old sons like me.

Sidenote: Never one to let the moss grow under his feet, in late 2011, Joe teamed with Beth Hart to release his fifth album of the year, consisting of "classics" by blues greats like Etta James, Billie Holliday, Ry Cooder, Tom Waits and Bobby "Blue" Bland. They also reworked a few songs including selections by Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Delaney & Bonnie Bramlett and this Bill Withers tune that takes on a new (almost unrecognizable) life as a fatback blues crooner. The prolific Mr. Bonamassa is no one trick pony and must live in the recording studios and concert venues.

Always good to see that someone saw the light and was able to make it and still use their huge talents.

Hello stranger! Where have you been? Yeah, Glen Hughes is half a decade older than me, lol and watching him in concert, he just stalks the stage and poses like a 30 year-old.

Sidenote: Written by Ian Anderson, this 1968 classic shows up on youtube with Mr. Anderson himself sitting in and being a Bonamassa-maniac. "A New Day Yesterday" is also the name of Joe's first solo album from 2000. As you'll see, Joe pays tribute to the classic rockers, blues and jazzmen from long ago.

A forth generation musician, Joe Bonamassa's resume reads like a Who's Who as well. He received his first guitar from his father (also a guitar player) at the age of 4, and by age 7 he was playing Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix tunes note for note. At the age of 11, he was mentored by Danny Gatton and learned country and jazz styles as well as Polka. During this time with Gatton, Bonamassa sat in with Gatton's band whenever they played in New York. He first opened for B. B. King at 12 years of age. At 14, he was invited to attend a Fender guitar event at the NAMM show (North American Music Merchandisers) in California and during that trip to the West Coast he met Berry Oakley, Jr. (son of Allman Bros. founding member). Bonamassa and Oakley founded the group Bloodline with Miles Davis's son Erin and Robby Krieger's (The Doors) son Waylon. They released one album which produced two chart singles — "Stone Cold Hearted", and "Dixie Peach." He has since played with Buddy Guy, Foreigner, Robert Cray, Stephen Stills, Joe Cocker, Gregg Allman, Steve Winwood, Paul Jones, Ted Nugent, Warren Haynes, Eric Clapton, Derek Trucks and Jack Bruce.
