We are the Free Republic Pre-War on Terror Class of Freepers.
Having been a freeper for over a decade, and having experienced both a pre 9/11 presence here and a post 9/11 presence, having experienced the Hanging Chad Wars of GW's first election, Sore Loserman and all, what stands out for you regarding the growth of Free Republic over the years.
What are your thoughts on the independence of Free Republic, and Jim Robinson's decision to go advertisement free all these years. My first thought is that his financial independence is what has freed him to tell the GOP-E to stick it in their ear this year.
If he had to worry about sponsors dropping him, or well-heeled pubbies supporting him, that might have intimidated a lesser man.
We've been blessed these many years. What stands out for you in your decades plus experience on Free Republic?
Hey, darlin! I’m in.
I have a conundrum for y’all:
NAME THAT TUNE! a remnant of a tune is going through the brain. It came out in the 70s or 80s, male singer, it was about how he was a better person because of this girl and even if she died or the relationship ended that night, his life would still go on because it was now worth living. Or something like that. I want to say a “bouncy” beat. Brainstorm. don’t say that beach boys song. Already ruled out.
The long-running America-the Right Way! daily thread was a high-point for so long.
I will never forget the time Laz began the thread with dancing. Hehehehe! It was hilarious. I hit the abuse button and we started over, but it was hilarious.
Well, I’m the original mia, but MiaT was the most artistic. . . or should I say graphic. What I found amazing was that in 1998 by visiting this site, via Drudge, I realized I was not alone. I actually thought I was the only person in my locality with commonsense. As it turned out, I found other Freepers in my own hometown and even protested Clinton at the Teacher’s Union Convention in Rochester, NY with the local FReeper group. Finding like minded people in those days was “unheardof.”
“11 1/2 for me...but maybe not much longer...”
Please hang in there. I checked some of your posts and agree with you,as I posted a couple of weeks ago.
A vote for Romney is a vote against Obama. If they are our 2 main candidates I’ll take a deep breath and vote for Mitt.
Ha ha ha, thought you were banned.
Thanks. I miss kayak. What a sweetie she was.
I miss kayak.
Me too. We have lost many good FReepers in the last 14 years.

Can't sugar coat it, we are having a tough time. We will adapt and overcome. Like I always say, at least we aren't being shot at.
Dog gone it. I ended a sentence with a preposition...

Glad to see that you showed up. There is finally a Conservative movement in WNY because of all your efforts. Thanks for all you do.

Now I AM crying.
Bttt
Reading all these reminiscences has been heartbreaking; it's time to say goodbye.
Godspeed, all: fair winds and following seas.
Colleen from Milwaukee, WI.
Newbies are trying to sink FR!
I’d lay odds that 90% don’t donate!!!
Thank you Mia! I really appreciate that.
Why would you even consider removing a piece of FR history and your own legacy?
I vote no.
