ACHXOY-MARTAN, Chechnya Chechnya's government is openly approving of families that kill female relatives who violate their sense of honor, as this Russian republic embraces a fundamentalist interpretation of Islam after decades of religious suppression under Soviet rule.
In the past five years, the bodies of dozens of young Chechen women have been found dumped in woods, abandoned in alleys and left along roads in the capital, Grozny, and neighboring villages.
Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov publicly announced that the dead women had loose morals and were rightfully shot by male relatives. He went on to describe women as the property of their husbands, and said their main role is to bear children.
If a woman runs around and if a man runs around with her, both of them should be killed, said Mr. Kadyrov, who often has stated his goal of making Chechnya more Islamic than the Islamists.
In todays Chechnya, alcohol is all but banned, Islamic dress codes are enforced and polygamous marriages are supported by the government.
Some observers say Mr. Kadyrovs attempt to impose Islamic law violates the Russian Constitution, which guarantees equal rights for women and a separation of church and state.
We are a traditional, conservative society, but the government has gone overboard, said Lipkhan Bazaeva, head of the Women's Dignity Center, a nongovernmental organization promoting womens rights in Grozny. They are declaring unacceptable limits on women as an individual, she has no rights even if her husband beats her, despite Russian laws.
Though observers agree that honor killings are on the rise in Chechnya, the issue remains largely taboo among locals making official statistics hard to come by.

My Cousin’s wife (spit—spit) believes Southern Baptists are just as bad as muzzies. She listens to npr all day at the office.
Not even quite half joking...those who have little for which to live may have much for which to die.
Unless your cousin is a lib too, I better life is fun at his place.
Waiting for NOW for their statement on this outrage! And waiting...and waiting...and waiting....and...
>>Indeed, under Socialism (1917-1991) men and women were as free in all these aspects as anyone in the West<<
First off, the poster said communism.
Second, if you are a Christian, NONE of those rights are given to you under Communism. Name go in book and you’re shuffled to the factory, given the smallest apartment and good luck finding the clothes to buy with your small salary.
Have you known a Christian living under Communism?
The real story here is that this edict comes from the puppet Putin-approved Chechen government. It means that Vlad has gone with the “If you can’t beat em join em” approach to dealing with fundamentalist Islam.
Dead Muslim women? Uh oh. Maybe they’ve been sold into prostitution.
“Unless your cousin is a lib too,”
He’s kind of a Schmoo,,,,,,go along to get along. When she got pregnant, she made him sell all his guns. I got a beautiful old, dead mint, SKB 800, for $250!
That includes being a rape victim, especially if male rapist is married.
They were. Same applies to Afghanistan. Women's civil rights were better when the Soviets occupied that miserable hellhole.
Amazing but true - communism is better than Islamism.
Where the HELL is the Secretary of State who’s so into “women’s rights” on this/??
I hate our current government so much that I have to take a break from news soon.
Svetlana Alliluyeva, Stalin's daughter, tells about her escape from Russia in the book "Only One Year."
It's a fascinating read.
She came out via the US Embassy in India, and she now lives in America.

You live in what’s probably the most beautiful state in the nation. I traveled there for a short time many years ago. Rent a vacation cottage for a few months or a few weeks if that’s feasible. You’ll feel like a new man.
The poster was technically mistaken (communism is a shorthand for several "advanced" sorts of socialism.) True communism, as defined by Marx and others, is an elusive beast; it's nearly unattainable. USSR almost never had communism. The "almost" refers to 1918-1921, years of Civil War. At that time principles of communism were implemented just because doing anything else was impossible - no money, no banks, no documents. Officially USSR was a Socialist society (the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.) Perhaps North Korea today can claim that they built the first sustained communist society (on bones of builders of that society.)
Name go[d?] in book and youre shuffled to the factory, given the smallest apartment and good luck finding the clothes to buy with your small salary.
You wouldn't need to invoke God's name or anything else - it was totally irrelevant to the rulers of USSR. Church was tolerated since 1943 (Stalin needed its help in war) - but it was also irrelevant. It did not threaten the rule of the party. This means that *everyone* was working some junk job, living in a hovel and wearing clothes that a rancher would be ashamed to wear while cleaning a barn. Everyone was equally poor (and that's why USSR had to have complete isolation from the West. Same happens today with NK.)

Assuming the Soviet society, whatever label we may affix to it - yes, I knew a few. The government completely ignored their religious beliefs. Members of the Communist Party were all atheists (supposedly) but they learned that fighting religion just isn't worth it. The Church also learned the lay of the land and was careful to not cross paths with Caesar's interests. The KGB was monitoring Church's activities, but not many priests got in trouble this way; the punishment for criticizing the regime was accompanied by a reward for cooperation - by the permission to preach. What is more important? That's a good question.
Hell some people think that Mormons are worse then Muslims..
“Name go in book”
No not God, your name goes in a book.

I’m not sure where you get your information but we have Slovak priest at our parish. They know others that were killed. AND if you went to church, no education, crappy living quarters, etc. etc.
You bought the Soviet line, my FRiend.
If they aren’t too busy counter protesting at abortion mills I bet they’re bashing Israel, the only country in the Mideast where women have equal rights.
Feminazis and jihadists should share a cell.
Chechnya under Kadirov is a huge improvement comparing to interwar Chechnya before Kadirov.
He is a dictator similar to Saddam or Q-duffy, maybe lower grade dictator but before Putin installed him it was like Afghanistan under Talibs and worse.
I’m not a advocating this guy a bit. Just an observation.
Hell has a lot of circles, at some circles it is much worse that other.
