Last week, Barack Obama delivered speeches at universities in Chapel Hill, N.C.; Iowa City, Iowa, and Boulder, Colo. The trip was, press secretary Jay Carney assured us, official government business, not political campaigning.
It's part of a pattern. Neil Munro of the Daily Caller has counted 130 appearances by the president, vice president, their spouses, White House officials and Cabinet secretaries at colleges and universities since spring 2011.
Obviously, the Obama campaign strategists are worried that he cannot duplicate his 66% to 32% margin among young voters back in 2008.
Recent surveys of young people show inconsistent results. Gallup's tracking shows Obama leading Mitt Romney 64% to 29%, and a Harvard Institute of Politics poll shows him leading Romney 43% to 26% among those who said they had an opinion.
But a March survey of 18- to 24-year-olds by the Public Religion Research Institute showed Obama ahead of "a Republican" by only 48% to 41%. Only 52% had favorable opinions of Obama, and 43% had unfavorable opinions.
Where the surveys seem to be in accord is that young voters are less engaged, less likely to vote and less enthusiastic about Obama than in the days when he was proclaiming, "We are the change we are seeking."

You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time. Abraham Lincoln, (attributed) 16th president of US (1809 - 1865)
Considering that those ‘fools’ who were voting and working with Obama were 18-25 yrs old when he first ran; a vast majority of them have already graduated and are reaping the benefits that he promised. They are now 22-29 yrs old and are likely under-employed, unemployed and graduated with a school debt that is creating a great financial burden to them.
This is the age range where many young folk get married, buy their first house and begin raising a family. Chances are, many of these folks are living with their parents (and many are married with children, living with one of their parents).
Meanwhile, those in the younger age range (18-25) are observing the lack of affluency of their older brothers, friends and neighbors; and are realizing that things look to be even worse for them when they reach graduation.
Some graduates (Creative Writing, Theater Arts, Womyn Studies, Home Economics, Medevial History, etc) are just now beginnging to realize that there is no realistic employment opportuntity that will begin to repay the school debt they have incurred to study their chosen field. Instead of blaming themselves - they will blame Obama. Unjustly (in this case), but nonetheless - Obama has been a disaster for Americans of all ages.
Obama is a legend in his own mind.
Just ask Max Headroom. Ren & Stimpy. Pinky & The Brain. The Scottish rapper McHammer. I'm sure there are more.
It's just not cool to be into what the previous class was into.
It’s a sorry act when the lead singer only knows the first few lines of one 40 year old R&B song.
I think that they will, until they graduate without a job.
That’s right, Pollster1. What passes for “Rock-stardom” these days leaves a lot to be desired by people who recognize good genuine quality when they see/hear it. It’s unbelievable how many people seem to have bad taste in music and art. To me, all of PC is conceived in bad taste but purveyors of it don’t expect us to enjoy it, they expect us to obey it.
Seems like the dogs are coming home to roost for Obama. The effect of three years of economic catastrophe with no end in sight, ballooning debt, ineptitude, scandal, lies, abject, total failure, the betrayal of the American people has him running head long into the sagacity and wisdom of a predecessor of his, Abraham Lincoln, who might very well have been divining the fate of some future president, almost as if talking directly to, at Obama.
I guess their eyes were opened after his latest singing performances. They realized he can’t sing.
Are we having a metphor mixing contest??? ;^)
One factor I think Obummer and his crowd have forgotten how cynical the young can become.
Can’t sing.
Can’t dance.
Can’t pick basketball teams.
Can’t do foreign policy.
Can’t run the economy.
Can’t do crap................
You’ll have to be quiet,my parents are upstairs!
Obama's just a bitch.
Nothing cool about a nerd in mom jeans.
I figured dogs were more appropriate than chickens coming home to roost for Obama in light of his epicurean proclivity for canine.(if that is in any way grammatically correct.) and before posting I checked google for the phrase “dogs coming home to roost” and surprisingly received eighteen search results. So it seems its not as rare as one might think.
Barry is but a symptom.
After he’s gone, we’ll still have an illiterate electorate.
