CNSNews.com) – President Barack Obama insisted Thursday that without government spending, “Google, Facebook would not exist.”
Obama made the remark at a campaign fundraiser while criticizing the budget passed by House Republicans. Obama said the Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget would, among other things, cut funding for research.
“I believe in investing in basic research and science because I understand that all these extraordinary companies that are these enormous wealth-generators -- many of them would have never been there; Google, Facebook would not exist, had it not been for investments that we made as a country in basic science and research,” Obama said. “I understand that makes us all better off.”
Obama said Ryan’s budget would gut “an advanced, responsible society.”

The only truth to his statement is that the U.S. MILITARY pioneered the internet, and the military is funded with tax dollars. Of course, it is a constitutional use of tax dollars so Obummer isn’t too happy about that.
Ubama would not exist without government funding, either.
Even the “lowly” housewife has accomplished more in one year than Obama has in his entire lifetime!

Sadly, he has a point there.
Too much of our business community has been Pavlov-trained to stand there with their hands out demanding Government Venture Capital before they’ll go ahead and take any risks.
I subscribe to our local Business Times, and virtually the entire thing is comprised of business “leaders” whining about “what is the government going to do for me today?” And editorials claiming that the economy will die if government does not keep on funding these schemes.
It is really making it hard to give a damn when government overreaches on regulation with the other hand.

Gotta call BS on this! Ham operators were using/researching packet switched networks and low level multiplexing when al bore’s interwebs were in the crawl stage. Yeah, DARPA set the stage, but the research was for the department of defense, not the double-plus-good fed.
Ask slick willy! His supposed economic prosperity was the direct result of Netscape’s successful IPO and the “dot com” boom (who laid the groundwork for that one?).
