Tonight we’ll check out 1920. (fooled ya)

It was a time of conservatism,
it was a time of great social change.
In music, the three sounds were jazz, jazz, and jazz.
The Jazz Age came about with artist like Bessie Smith and Duke Ellington.

Slang:
Ab-so-lute-ly – affirmative
All Wet - describes an erroneous idea or individual, as in, "he's all wet."
And How - I strongly agree!
Applesauce- an expletive same as horsefeathers, As in "Ah applesauce!"
Bee's Knees - An extraordinary person, thing, idea; the ultimate
Bank's Closed - no kissing or making out - i.e. - "Sorry, Mac, the bank's closed."
Cat's Meow - Something splendid or stylish; similar to bee's knees; The best or greatest, wonderful.
Don't know from nothing - don't have any information
Don't take any wooden nickels - Don't do anything stupid
Flapper - A stylish, brash, hedonistic young woman with short skirts & shorter hair
Fly boy - a glamorous term for an aviator
Giggle Water - An intoxicating beverage; alcohol

Chicago was hot! Harlem was hot with Jazz and the so-called "devil's music'!
(The Cotton Club was open to both whites and blacks and packed nightly.)

The Silent Screen stars
included the chic Rudolph Valentino, sexy Clara Bow.
Rudy Vallee sang through his megaphone.
The first talking picture, Don Juan, starring John Barrymore
premiered on Broadway in 1926.
This made movies big business.

Well, they’ve gotten brave enough to venture out of the master bedroom! Lately, they’ve been taking a tour of the hallway and kitchen around 10 o’clock each night. They’ve also begun eating solid food.

And it looks like all of them are spoken for. One of my wife’s friends is taking Jimi (and renaming her, most likely Licorice), one of my SCCA buddies is taking Morrison, and another friend from the track is interested in Janis. We’re keeping Monkey.

The first great soloist of the 1920s musicians. Armstrong's legend rose because of the New Orleans style jazz that stove for a more collective sound with all instruments playing in harmony. Armstrong's horn could not be muted.

His influence was pervasive and throughout the course of his long career he would create a lasting legacy for the Jazz Age, and would leave a lasting mark on music and celebrity as a whole.
