Commentary: Glenn Beck's Oval Office {Beck going all in for Mitt?]
Star-Telegram ^ | April 12, 2012 | Bud Kennedy

Glenn Beck has been in Texas only a few months, and he's already talking big.

Now, he wants to address America from his own Oval Office.

Lest anyone fear that something has suddenly gone drastically wrong in our country, Beck's Oval Office is a movie set in Irving.

-SNIP-

Saying he will "deliver the speeches the president should have delivered," Beck promised to "activate the sleeping giant" of Christian conservatives in America with speeches from his new set on the Studios' Stage A.

Mainly, of course, Beck's goal is to motivate subscribers to pay $9.95 a month for his show, broadcast daily to about 300,000 viewers via computer, iPad, iPhone or other household appliance.

-SNIP-

Beck said he hopes to hire 1,000 workers in Irving for an entrepreneurial project.

It's named American Dream Labs.

He's right about the dream part

I have no problem with most of the content. I enjoy a hillside filled with marigold and daffodils as much as the next person. Just not convinced about its alleged infallibility.

That would explain the fixation on the repetitive insults of “immature” and “grow up”. Eunuchs’ efforts to appear virile. Must suck to never be able to function as a fully emancipated person capable of independent thought and action. Reinforces the aggressive conformity too, like a basket full of angry crabs making sure than none of the others escape.

Perfect chattel for the Party plantation.

Anyone can write a book describing what God told them.

The only part I sort of followed there was your mention of the Golden Rule. It’s a great rule. And because God would not wish me to throw Him into a pit of fire, I expect he will not do that to me.

"Well then if you read other threads you'd be honest and admit there are right wingers whom think those that spew anti Mormonism rhetoric on FR are bigoted. It's a fact. You are just simply wrong.

About what? Yes, I know some folks think that calling a false religion what it is, is bigotry. Am I supposed to be influenced by that somehow? Do you live your life according to what people think of you, or what you know is right?

" I probably understand as well or even more than you do. I just don't agree with what you accept as being "the Word of God."

It doesn't matter what any of us think. What does His word say? Compare it to Mormon writings, and the matter's pretty much settled.

"Certainly. No. They actually accept NT writings as holy writ."

Sorry, wrong. They believe Scripture is flawed, and that their own doctrine corrected it.

“Seriously, I’ve thought it through for dozens of years. How could God be less merciful, less forgiving than man?”

I’m astounded that you have made man the measure of God’s character!
You might as well make every pot the standard of character for the Potter.

The second thing that jumps out at me is that you have truncated God’s character to being just loving and just merciful.

God is also righteous. God is also holy.

The solution you have arrived at is to make God equal in character to fallen man by eliminating the parts you do not like.

Only in Christ does the Loving, Merciful God who is also Righteous and Holy find full expression of all His Character, providing forgiveness that is unconditional (unlike man’s standard). Sin is fully judged, satisfying God’s Justice, Righteousness and Holiness. Mercy is delivered, Love is poured out and God is reconciled with His creation on His terms.

Your explanation falls short by an immeasurable distance. Your god/idol is the size of man. Your idol is not holy, righteous, loving or just.

And that is just the tip of the iceberg of what is wrong with your claim. As I said, you are free to worship the small god you created, while turning your back on God Himself. I wish you the best.

If just stands to reason that there cannot be men who are more just, forgiving, merciful, or wise than God. If man, in his finest state, would not throw good people into a lake of fire, then it stands to reason that neither would a just, forgiving, merciful, and wise God.

It boils down to this: Any “god” that would condemn “non-Christians” to eternal hell fire must be considered “mad” and unworthy of worship. This is not a new idea or one that I came up with on my own. I certainly don’t have any negative feeling toward those who disagree nor do I claim that my beliefs are “true” and that others are not.

The last point is that I would base my vote on a candidate’s belief in the principles of freedom, not on their beliefs about Jesus or hellfire or whatever.

Your God is pretty tiny to hide behind a man.
Your standards of character are as incomplete as your idols.

My job is to open doors. I can’t make you walk through them.

I think my God works very well for me - faith plus rationality. I think that’s what He wants us to show. Thank you for not making me walk through your door.

Seriously. The purpose of God isn’t to “work for you”.
He is God. You should be more concerned about what
He expects from you than how you can fit Him behind a man.

As I noted. Your God is quite tiny.

As to what He wants... you made that up out of whole cloth
by cutting out the parts of His Character you didn’t like (feelings).

Still, I wish you the best. I leave you in His hands.
