PETA is ticked off at Katniss Everdeen.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence opens up about her gross-out, squirrel-skinning scene from Winter's Bone, the gritty 2010 flick which earned her a Best Actress Oscar nomination. According to Lawrence, 21, that moment wasn't faked in the slightest.
"I should say it wasn't real, for PETA," Lawrence told the mag. "But screw PETA."
Needless to say, PETA didn't take too kindly to Lawrence's joking remark.
"She's young and the plight of animals somehow hasn't yet touched her heart. As Henry David Thoreau said, 'The squirrel you kill in jest, dies in earnest," the organization's president, Ingrid Newkirk, told Gothamist Tuesday morning. "When people kill animals, it is the animals who are 'screwed,' not PETA, and one day I hope she will try to make up for any pain she might cause any animal who did nothing but try to eke out a humble existence in nature."

I know, I know: not guilty. (Quoth Ann Coulter: "All the pretty girls are on my side.") And she wasn't really making a political statement here. But I feel a particular warmth in my heart on any occasion that PETA is derided by anyone.
Remember, PETA kills 95% of the adoptable animals in their care. [Warning: Pictures of PETA's puppy victims at link.] http://www.petakillsanimals.com/

'The squirrel you kill in jest, dies in earnest."
I should hope so. The live ones put up too much of a fight on your dinner plate.

What a beauty! Too bad she has to get harassed by these worthless jackasses who respect animals before they’d respect an unborn baby.
Wonder what squirrel meat tastes like!

Shot? I hold out walnuts and when they come over to take one, BANG! over the head with a shovel.

But the animals PETA kills in earnest also die in earnest, so what's the difference?

Tell Us: Do you think Jennifer Lawrence’s comment was out of line—or is PETA overreacting?
Forget the perfume, ladies. Just dab some A-1 steak sauce or Hoppes #9 behind your ears.
First time I’ve seen Miss Lawrence in make-up, and she’s a babe even without it.

I don't always agree with Penn & Teller but they did score a huge hit with me with their episode of "BullSh!t" about PETA.
If you've never seen it, here it is: Warning NSFW
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inFtOMx8nDU
To me, the best parts of this episode are the comments by Dennis Prager at 13:42 and 25:34. These comments really had an impact on my understanding of environmentalists, animal rights activists, college communists, and basically the whole OWS movement.
13:42 -- (In response to a statement that the movement to save animals from the slaughterhouse is equal to the movement to liberate women or to free the slaves.) "The foolishness of that comment is so deep I can only ascribe it to higher education. You have to have gone to college to say something that stupid."
25:34 -- (This one was the big eye-opener for me.) "We have a generation in America that doesn't know Evil. They've never suffered. They don't know Nazism. They don't know communism. They don't know torture. They don't know death camps. So they're so naive that they believe that the real Evil is done to animals."
That's why young people so easily get roped into this kind of BS. They want to matter. They want to do something with their lives. But... They don't have to gather firewood every day. They don't have to grow their own food. They don't have to make their own clothes. They don't have to defend their loved ones from an enemy that wants them all dead. They don't have to worry about their lives except on a superficial level. Many of them don't even have to work for a living. And their young and dumb. So they find a "cause."
Explains a lot to me.

Well, she's from Kentucky. She's probably been skinning squirrels since she was knee high.
I know, I know: not guilty
Not guilty at all...
