PHILADELPHIA (AP) — I thought my son would be much older before I had to tell him about the Black Male Code. He's only 12, still sleeping with stuffed animals, still afraid of the dark. But after the Trayvon Martin tragedy, I needed to explain to my child that soon people might be afraid of him.
We were in the car on the way to school when a story about Martin came on the radio. "The guy who killed him should get arrested. The dead guy was unarmed!" my son said after hearing that neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman had claimed self-defense in the shooting in Sanford, Fla.
We listened to the rest of the story, describing how Zimmerman had spotted Martin, who was 17, walking home from the store on a rainy night, the hood of his sweatshirt pulled over his head. When it was over, I turned off the radio and told my son about the rules he needs to follow to avoid becoming another Trayvon Martin — a black male who Zimmerman assumed was "suspicious" and "up to no good."
As I explained it, the Code goes like this:

The only reason Zimmerman got out of the car was to confront the guy. He told the cops about him. Other wise what happened would be this: Zimmerman got out of the car, did not confront the guy, was going back to the car and for no reason whatever the guy attacks Zimmerman from the back. Don’t think this is what happened.
Zimmerman had ceased following Tray-Vawn and was walking back to his SUV when Tray-Vawn blind-sided him.

Everybody gets it. You don’t have to go to the trouble to keep repeating over and over and digressing to tell your opinion of what makes a person “white”. We all know what the media is up to.
Because of an accident of geography I grew up with schoolmates who had parents of mixed ethnicity, including some whose mothers parents were from a country south of the USA with varying percentages of spanish-native-american and dads who were Jewish and they all spoke english without accent and had light complexion and not particularly distinctive features and were culturally the same as their anglo-saxon-french-german-polish schoolmates and they certainly thought of themselves as “white”, and we as their friends would have thought it exceedingly odd if somebody came around asserting to them “ YOU’re not white!”

That's what I said. Getting into contact space (reach) in an confrontation you start. If you're following me, then getting out of a car and coming after me to contact space, as far as I'm concerned, you've gone from someone looking for discussion to what's going on, to someone with bad intentions. I'm stopping the threat and going home. One way or another.
It is not illegal for someone to talk to you, or even to say something you don’t like.
I wasn't referring to talking, or saying something I didn't like. That can be done from a safe distance outside the reach of each other's fists or feet.
Remember when the blacks in the inner cities in the 60’s. 70’s and 80’s were robbing whites, the liberals told whites to carry $20.00 dollars so you have something to give them when they rob you!
This caused “white flight” from the inner cities, the blacks took over, the cities died, e.g. Detroit, now the black teenagers are mobbing up and branching out into the suburbs to attack whites.
Blacks are outraged, whites should be outraged, it has been a long time coming!

So it’s fine for Martin to take the law into his own hands but not Zimmerman. Nice double standard you have.
Two points to my statement:1> Getting out of the car. Neighborhood watch volunteers just report what they see to the cops, the cops take care of it. 2> He had his gun with him and got out of the car close to where the guy was. The phone call with his girlfriend makes it sound like he was confronted.
Otherwise: it just so happened that Zimmerman got out of his car close to the guy. Coincidental that the guy was there and the guy jumped him from the back for no reason. Not likely to have happened.

Not necessarily. You could end up in jail. Especially if the case is tried in the court of the politically correct media instead of a court of law which seems to be happening with this case.
That's if you believe Zimmerman was telling the truth to the cops.
Bullcrap,, Treyvon call 911? Does that advice also mean Zimm shoulda wait for the cops. Or does only he get to call the cops and do whatever he wants? But that Treyvon must quietly call 911 and behave,, and be deferential to Zimm?
Zimn forced this to a point that the kid was threatened, they struggled over the gun Zimm had out,, and the kid was shot.
Zimm made the rookie mistake of thinking a pointed gun was an obedience ray. The kid fought hard, and lost. Sad.
If you are on the street and someone confronts you, you have the right to defend yourself. Let me say it this way:IF ZIMMERMAN HAD STAYED IN THE CAR AND WAITED ON THE COPS, THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. THE DISPATCHER TOLD HIM TO WAIT. SOMEONE WALKING DOWN THE STREET DOES NOT NEED IMMEDIATE ATTENTION. BEING IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH MEANS YOU OBSERVE AND REPORT TO HE COPS. YOU STAY IN THE CAR. IF ZIMMERMAN THOUGHT THIS GUY WAS A DANGER, HE SHOULD NOT HAVE GOTTEN OUT OF HIS CAR.

OK. I give up. Where did you get this info. Or are you just pulling this out of your ass?
Are you one of the eyewitnesses that gave a statement to the police?
The writer does say this, though:
Always pay close attention to your surroundings, son, especially if you are in an affluent neighborhood where black folks are few.
Since the neighborhood of the shooting was "gated" I think a lot of people have assumed it was affluent. It is a majority-minority neighborhood and about 20% of the residents are black. Homes go for around the $120s. It is not a poor neighborhood, but it is neither affluent nor all-white.
If Zim would have simply continued observing,, he would have seen Trevon walk into his front door. There was no immediate need for Zimm to confront him.
It is a fact that neighborhood watch volunteers are just suppose to report and not act on their own. Some neighborhood watch organizations restrict the carrying of guns while on watch duty. It is a fact if Zimmerman had waited on the cops like the dispatcher had told him to do, this would not have happened.
Zimmerman was the one who was assuming facts not in evidence by thinking this guy had no business in the neighborhood.
If Martin hadn't gone for Skittles, this would not have happened.
See how your emotional assertions that have no basis in law are completely useless to this discussion?
