More than a decade before former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky was charged with more than 50 counts of child sex abuse, a psychologist warned university police that his actions fit that of a likely pedophiles pattern.
The finding by State College, Pa., psychologist Dr. Alycia A. Chambers, the therapist for one of Sanduskys alleged victims, was contained in the internal Penn State files of a 1998 police investigation of the former coach for showering and bear hugging her client and another young boy in the schools athletic locker room.

Public hanging.
Horsing around! /s roll eyes
And JoePa had NO indication of anything going on in ‘98 when he told Sandusky he was NEVER going to be head coach, and Sandusky summarily resigned?
Yeah, JoePa knew nothing, JoePa was never contacted during the ‘98 investigation of Sandusky raping a boy IN THE PENN STATE FOOTBALL FACILITIES!!!!
What a crock. The JoePa apologists are mentally deranged. My roots are in central PA, and to listen to folks bending over backwards to defend JoePa makes me sick.
Sandusky could have gotten a head coaching gig at any school he wanted, yet no school would touch him......why was that?
I agree that there is no point in sullying the character of a dead man, but I think JoePa, were he still alive, would have a lot of explaining to do.
That being said, being a PSU alumnus and being mortified at everything that has come to light, I think its time to let the Paterno matter rest and focus on the rapist...
I think Sandusky’s lawyer will get a lot of this info suppressed if the case goes to trial. I’m already predicting that Jerry will walk as a result of technicalities and other things not being able to be shown to the jury. I’ve heard that psychologists are not allowed to explain grooming behavior to the jury. They’re not allowed to comment on it. If that’s the case, a lot of this will be moot.
I see this as a complete travesty of justice. The young men, once molested by Sandusky as children, will be re-victimized by the court system. The perpetrator will walk free, and victims of child molesters will refuse to come forward in the future.
Nobody will change the laws so that the victims will be protected. Pedophiles will win big. Sorry to be so pessimistic, but I have little faith in the justice system anymore.
The facts are worse than that. Paterno met with Sandusky in May 1999 and Sandusky announced his retirement on July 1, 1999 effective at the end of the 1999 season.
The police report referenced in this article is dated May 1998. That means that Sandusky coached two season after this report, one of those seasons after announcing his retirement. And for those two seasons, he was allowed to bring a boy with him to the team's official pre-game overnights at Toftree's golf resort and conference center, where Sandusky and the boy sat at the coaches' table for the pregame banquets. According to the grand jury presentment, Sandusky sexually abused his overnight guest (Victim #6 during the 1999 season) at Toftree's, during those team overnights.
And Sandusky was permitted to bring a boy with him to both the 1998 Outback Bowl and the 1999 Alamo Bowl, after this report. According to the grand jury presentment, Sandusky sexually abused Victim #6 in San Antonio when he accompanied Sandusky to the Alamo Bowl.
Again why was not Sandusky even offered a job at another school after he left? Who tipped off all of the other programs?

That’s a great question. Certainly there had to have been rumors about Sandusky in the coaching circles.
I’m also wondering how all this information that’s supposed to be under seal is being leaked. I think it helps the defense argue against a fair trial.
I have this horrible feeling in my gut that Sandusky will walk, ala OJ, Michael Jackson, & Casey Anthony. Certain things that would weigh against Sandusky will be suppressed, so the jury will only see a small part of the evidence that would put him away. There will be one person who thinks there is “reasonable doubt”.
I have so little faith in our legal system anymore, and I think that’s sad.
I think V is getting at that if Joe knew about Sandusky in 98, he could have made it impossible for Sandusky to have continued molesting children.
Seems sometimes to my paranoid mind that there is an underground of people with the same orientation as him that have worked and continue to work to save him and his ilk. Scary.
Maybe NAMBLA?
Well then count me as paranoid, too. ;)
I agree, let's focus on Sandusky. I'd also like to see if there will be any investigation whatsoever into the Second Mile and Jack Raykovitz. Why didn't he tell anyone on the Board when he was told that Sandusky was supposedly banned from bringing boys to PSU? Why was he silent?
Please, please, somebody please, do an investigation on Second Mile!
As noted above, it's a great point, given that he was considered one of the greatest defensive coordinators in college football history at the time he retired. Factually, I believe the name of one small school that pursued Sandusky post-retirement for a head coaching job has surfaced in several stories - simply mentioned in the story as an aside and not as the main focus of the story.
If pressed for the name of the school, I'd have to dig. I've tried several specific Google searches to include the name of the college in this response, but there's so much Sandusky information on the Internet that I believe I'd have to stumble across it by accident.
The key is that no high-profile program even whispered an indication of interest in Sandusky. And yet he was named the NCAA Assistant Coach of the Year the year he retired.
