Overwhelming Demand: Ruger Suspends All New Firearms Orders: Incoming Order Rate Exceeds Our Capacity to Rapidly Fulfill These Orders

Editors Note: Amid a host of concerns that include, but are not limited to, rising crime, a lack of law enforcement during a crisis such as an economic collapse and, most notably, the potential re-election of President Barack Obama for another four years, Americans are stocking up on firearms and ammunition like never before. Last year alone we saw sales of guns in the United States exceed 10,000,000, and according to a recent report some three million Americans are among those preparing for worst case scenarios.
They are purchasing supplies that include self defense armaments, long-term food storage, and off-grid survival tools. Demand is so high for these essential post-collapse survival commodities that in December of 2010 it prompted Mountain House, the largest freeze dried food manufacturer in the world, to delay orders for months at a time. Now, similar to the ammunition shortages leading up to the 2008 Presidential election, Americans are increasingly worried about what may happen to their Second Amendment rights under another Obama term. This has, once again, led to unprecedented demand. Ammunition shortages in popular calibers, for example, have been reported by numerous sources. Likewise, overwhelming demand for firearms has forced one of the worlds largest gun manufacturers to suspend all new firearms production orders because they simply cannot keep up.

Via Off Grid Survival:
After our story on the Rise of the Prepper, we have been inundated with emails from readers telling us how hard its becoming for them to obtain certain types of ammo. We also had a reader send us a press release this morning from Ruger.
Effective Immediately Ruger has stopped accepting Firearms Orders. The Company says that they have had to temporarily suspend the acceptance of new orders after receiving requests for more than one million units.
Here is the Official Statement from Ruger:
SOUTHPORT, CT Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE-RGR), announced today that for the first quarter 2012, the Company has received orders for more than one million units. Therefore, the Company has temporarily suspended the acceptance of new orders.
Chief Executive Officer Michael O. Fifer made the following comments:
The Companys Retailer Programs that were offered from January 1, 2012 through February 29, 2012 were very successful and generated significant orders from retailers to independent wholesale distributors for Ruger firearms.
* Year-to-date, the independent wholesale distributors placed orders with the Company for more than one million Ruger firearms.
* Despite the Companys continuing successful efforts to increase production rates, the incoming order rate exceeds our capacity to rapidly fulfill these orders.
* Consequently, the Company has temporarily suspended the acceptance of new orders.
* The Company expects to resume the normal acceptance of orders by the end of May 2012.
In the Rise of the Prepper article, we warned that with Guns, Gold and Emergency Food all setting record sales numbers we will likely see major shortages hit the marketplace. As people begin to stock up on preparedness related items in response to the coming election cycle, we will likely see nationwide shortages similar to what happened during the elections in 2008. I fear this is only the beginning.
Check out the stock price increase over the last year. Phenomenal!
For once I’m ahead of the market; all stocked up.
So I guess it’ll be the Kel-Tek 3AT instead of the Ruger LCP unless anyone has good things to say about the Taurus 738. Anyone have an opinion?
I would try to find a shooting range with one you can rent before you buy. My wife can’t handle the loud report and recoil from these Light Carry pistols. I make her practice with what she carry’s, currently my Taurus 890. Maybe in .380 it would be OK. One nice thing is the TCP comes with a nicely constructed nylon case that clips to your belt and looks like it holds some electronic gizmoconcealed in plain sight, as it were.
Yawn, gun shows are fully stocked, enjoy. Gunbroker has over 14,000 ruger listings.
don’t worry about it. For the price, my Kel-tec PF9 is great. Its no Ruger or Khar or Kimber but it has shot fine thru 500 rounds so far and is light as a feather. Good luck!!
I own the Kel-Tec in .32acp and it feels fine in my hand; I don’t imagine the .380 will be much stiffer. The other option is the Kel-Tec PF9. It’s a more serious round, a larger capacity and not much bigger profile.
So many options
I literally trust my Kel-Tec P3AT with my life. Been carrying it in a pocket holster for 2 years now. It fires every single time without fail, and is deadly accurate.
If you can't find the guns you want, buy the largest number of the guns closest to your ideal guns, and buy lots of ammunition, then more ammunition, then more after that. If you know what you're doing and/or willing to learn, invest in reloading equipment and start making your own ammunition. No, it's not too soon.
I brought a Ruger SP 101 2.25” last month from a local dealer at a really great price.
Woo Hoo, gun show in town this weekend. Gates open at 9:00 am
See, have fun, LOL
FUN, you bet!
Gun Show 9:00 am to 1:00pm
Adult beverages 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm
Open Wheel sprint cars at the local dirt track 6:00 pm to 11:00pm
68° partly cloudy
God bless America!!!!
Look at the YTD stock performance of these two American companies.
Buy into the stock of these two companies and support our second amendment and American companies.
I was never a Ruger fan... taurus makes good guns. Honestly, I haven’t shot a Ruger pistol in a long time now. Last time I did, I didn’t like the trigger pull on the P89.
How much, if any, is due to feds ordereing 450 MILLION rounds of .40 caliber pistol ammo?
>How much, if any, is due to feds ordereing 450 MILLION rounds of .40 caliber pistol ammo?
I hear that and thing that if SHTF the police, especially SWAT, armories could become the new “gun shops.”
Ruger has something like $4 per share in cash along with zero debt. And don’t forget the 2% dividend. Oh, and did I mention their deep lineup.
Maybe more than you know.
