If you hear anybody on TV saying that somehow we are against drilling for oil, then you will know that they either dont know what they are talking about or they are not telling you the truth, Obama said, against the backdrop of oil production facilities outside Maljamar, N.M.
We are drilling all over the place, Obama added, reading from a speech on his podium on a windy afternoon. Thats the reason we have been able to reduce our dependence on foreign oil every year since I took office.
While Obama has repeated in recent days that theres no silver bullet that can currently ease the price at the pumps, he vowed that his administration will make oil-and-gas development a continued priority as part of a wider strategy focused on traditional and alternative energy. You have my word that we will keep drilling everywhere we can and we will do it while protecting the health and safety of the American people, Obama said, speaking with no jacket or tie. Thats a commitment that I make.
The White House has struggled in recent days to win the debate on gas prices, with Obama appearing at college campuses and manufacturing facilities to tout his energy strategy.
Wednesdays appearance in New Mexico reflected a pivot of sorts as the White House looked to change the optics on the issue.
Obama delivered a 10-minute speech at the oil field after an hour-and-a-half flight from Nevada where he was touting solar energy and another 30-minute helicopter ride.
Overall U.S. oil production has been steadily increasing, reversing declines that began in the mid-1980s, and federal Energy Information Administration (EIA) data show that its now at the highest level since 2003.
But federal data show that combined oil production from federal lands and waters the areas regulated by Obama's Interior Department dipped in fiscal year 2011 after several years of gains.
Obamas GOP critics have pounced on the recent drop, and more broadly say Obama should open far more areas to development than White House plans call for, alleging policies including the decision to keep the Atlantic and Pacific Coasts off-limits are far too restrictive.
It would be a kick if oil and/or natural gas actually were right underneath the WH and the Capitol. Drill, baby, drill.
what an effing lying POS. Buttcrack and his lies..
The GOP-controlled House of Representatives should immediately pass a bill to open up ANWR to drilling and see what Obama and the other Democrats do.
And why aren’t the pubbies pushing bills to open drilling in ANWR and offshore RIGHT NOW??
This clown really takes the cake.
Great minds......
Bill Clinton taught me to parse everything a politican says.
I think we married the same woman. LOL
LIAR!!!
Obama inherited this from Bush. The idea that Obama had anything to do with increased oil production defies reason. It takes about five to eight years from discovery to production.
In fact, projections are that oil production will decrease in the future due to Obama's policies.
I think we married the same woman. LOL
Don't worry, that's prolly legal in most places these days ;-)
Because they're a pack of gutless wimps. All they're concerned about is re-election. Period. What America wants or needs doesn't matter to our political class anymore...with very few exceptions.
Already done and defeated in the Senate.
Seven Republicans joined with the RATS to defeat it. Some of those will surprise you, others...not so much

Somebody should make up a Youtube video of Obama today talking about drilling “everywhere we can” and Sarah Palin saying something similar in the 2008 election campaign. Anybody know how?
Obama is such a shameless liar!
“liar”
