Syria: 'I Am the Real Dictator', Declares Asma al-Assad
The Telegraph ^ | 18 Mar 2012

Posted on 03/18/2012 5:49:16 PM PDT by nickcarraway

Asma al-Assad, the British-born wife of Syria’s president, told a friend that she was the “real dictator” in the family, according to leaked emails that suggest she holds a cherished place in the leader’s inner circle.

Despite the ambitions she expressed for liberalising Syria before the uprising, Mrs Assad, 36, displays no misgivings about the regime’s bloody crackdown, which has accounted for most of the estimated 8,000 lives lost. Her correspondence with Bashar al-Assad, his aides, friends and family portray her as highly supportive of her husband.

In an email to a family friend on Jan 10, she praised a speech the president gave for conveying a sense of being “very strong, no more messing around”.

In another, she complains that ABC News unfavourably edited an interview with him.

On Jan 17, she circulated an email cracking a joke at the expense of the people of Homs, shortly before a regime onslaught that would claim hundreds of lives.

She's dreaming.
She will be lucky to get out of this alive.
Assad will probably end up either divorcing her or getting wife #2-5. That will shut her up.

yeah lets cheer for the sunni extremists to rape and destroy secular syrians. And after they are done with the alawites, who are considered heretics by muslims, the extremists will begin to turn their faces to the christian population! Down with the dictator!

On a less sarcastic note,

Im surprised the media hasnt dubbed these muslim brotherhood extremists as “progressive” forces yet. I remember them doing this against the lebanese christians, dubbing the muslims progressive and christians as right wing fascist militias who massacre people left and right.

Some posts really make me wonder if im on a conservative forum sometimes.

Oh actually theyre one step ahead of me, apparently 3 of the car bombings yesterday on government forces were car bombs placed in christian areas. How “halal” of the muslim brotherhood.

A real scary thought would be her running for President in 2016.

Everyone should keep in mind that the press is, as usual, propagandizing.

Who would we rather have in charge of Syria, an Alawite dictator, or a gang of Muslim terrorists?

Al-Assad is worse than Mubarak, but do we really want to install the Muslim brotherhood.

They keep babbling about all the people that Assad has killed. But they seem to forget that this is a violent uprising by Islamist fanatics, and that there is plenty of killing on both sides. If the fanatics win, then you’ll see the same kind of mass butchery that we got in Libya, although the press prefers to ignore it. And the numerous Christians in the area will all be killed or driven out.

Be careful what you wish for. And never listen to the left wing press without careful examination of their factuality and motives.

Bingo, fellas. Al-Assad might not be our man of the year, but his secular Alawite regime is far preferable to any likely successor. The British educated optometrist and his beautiful British born and educated wife possess a quality that is becoming increasingly rare among Arab leaders - they are rational people. Though Syria remains belligerent toward Israel, its secular leadership has avoided all-out war with the Israelis for almost 40 years.

There is no doubt in my mind that Israel would prefer for Syria to remain under Assad's stable and predictable rule. And there is no doubt in my mind that the Obama camp would prefer for Syria and its military might to fall under the control of Muslim radicals. Obama will not rest until the hated Joos are surrounded by fanatics.

Meanwhile here are more press reports to ponder. One on just how bad the situation is getting, and the second on why we probably won’t do anything military about it. Further thought, we have no way of knowing whether Assad may be doing some of the bombing to blame his enemies. There is a widely believed rumor that Putin blew up an apartment building a decade ago to blame the Chechens. The Syrians no doubt have learned much skullduggery from the Russians. There are layers and layers of deceit to filter.

Thanks gleeaikin. My sentiments (you know) are we should have distanced ourselves from any and all parts of the so-called arab spring and not become involved through words or deeds. We didn't because of zer0’s and his minions’ ignorance and now (imho) the world is a much more dangerous place than was before the arab spring thanks to becoming involved. Some fights are won simply by not fighting the fight. Now that America is involved in this fight, there will never be a win which can be chalked up for America till the unthinkable is done to some nations (imho) and for what was unthinkable will come to visit our nation too due to the ignorance of our politicians. It is begun, and thus far (imho) we are loosing. To win it is becoming clear that things will have to be broken and broken takes longer to fix. Best strategy was to do nothing, except humanitarian relief during the arab spring. Since we chose a side, the wrong side (imho) the distrust of any alliance is now in question. Now that we are in, we shall have to win to survive. Most Americans have not understood yet what that implies. If we choose not to understand what we must now do to survive, survival could possibly not be in the cards for America. Dang .... we should have stayed out of the arab spring and left it to the arabs.

Thank you for this article. I commented on SunkenCiv’s link over here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2859177/posts?page=16

I’m afraid that the comments about Mrs. Assad being brutally raped are quite likely to end up coming true. That would be a horrible outcome, and one that conservatives and liberals should both abhor in the strongest possible terms. However, given the statements by the rebels when her convoy tried to flee Damascus, it seems obvious the rebels will not let her leave alive if they gain control, and probably the best she can hope for is a humane execution.

Perhaps an execution of a pretty and prominent advocate for women who had been profiled in Vogue Magazine will finally wake up the liberals on how dangerous the Islamic radicals are.

The “secular” optometrist is massacring children, women, and old people by the thousands… The “secular” optometrist is a main supporter of “Islamic” terrorists groups such a Hizballah and Hamas whose main goal is the destruction of Israel and the establishment of Islamic states. The “secular” optometrist opened the flood of Al Qaeda terrorists to go from Syria to Iraq during the Iraq war in order to kill our US troops and massacre thousands of Iraqis… And by the way since you are so concerned by the Christians in Syria, if they by any chance decide to go against him he will massacre them to the last one, the same way the Assad terrorist regime (his father) massacred thousands of Christians in Lebanon when Syria occupied Lebanon of 30 years…

There is nobody worse than Assad, equally bad yes, but not worse. There is no difference in evil between the Assad terrorist regime and Al Qaeda terrorists, they are the same crap divided into two pieces…

if Assad terrorist regime falls then Iranian terrorist regime would fall within a yea ror two after that.
