In 1963,
Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman did something quite exceptional. They provided saloon singer Andy Williams with a song that had an unusual pizzicato instrumental accompaniment. What made it exceptional was that the pizzicato chords came on the off beats.

You have my Irish going tonight! I have been listening to Gaelic/Celtic/Irish (not all the same, but interrelated) music this evening while enjoying this thread...
There is something about hearing the ancient language of my peoples that gives me both goosebumps and causes me to tear up.
It is definitely possible to have the blood and soul of a people, and my Irish roots touch me very deeply when I hear the music in the native tongues.
Now, back to my fifth :)
Here is a little bit — acapella and this dear girl nails it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBmWqxUF7LI&list=PLE7C17E59A9F4ADD6&index=17

In 1962,
Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman had written a tune for Elvis that was placed on an album and became a hit for him in the UK. But here it was recorded in 1964 by the first of the Elvis impersonators, who got a huge hit out of it.
Terry Stafford: Suspicion
Here is what Elvis did with it.
