Good people forcibly disarmed by these fatal laws.

(Note: It’s not legal to carry in a courthouse in Florida. Texas might be different.)

Not legal to carry in the courthouse here in Texas either.

Minnesota: Felony unless with a permit you give advance written notice to the sheriff in the county of the courthouse.

Assuming you do that, you may still have a court order barring the presence of weapons near the court offices, court rooms, and related areas, for which the violation is likely a misdemeanor.

the courthouses in WA have metal detectors
at the public entrance.

‘No chance’ of getting a gun inside except for the bailiff.

That’s impossible. There are signs forbidding privately owned firearms on the premises. Nobody would bring a firearm to a location where they are not allowed. That’s why there are no privately owned firearms in Chicago.

"He was to face charges that he sexually abused his daughter who is mentally deficient."

It's those danged Bible-thumping Christians trying to force their sexual morality into laws. If only he had been allowed to sexually abuse his daughter this would not have happened.

May I be the first to say it: Santorum's fault...

Hold your fire! It’s a common fact that vindictive baby mamas falsely accuse biodads of sexual abuse of the children ALL the time to get a “leg up” on a custody battle and all those cash prizes (child support).

Doesn’t excuse the shooting but the frustration is often palpable as the courts automatically take the stance “women and children don’t lie.”

And yes, I’m a woman.

Just a typical day in Texas. Danger-averse Yankees and foreigners should stay out lest they be shot in the crossfire.

I can’t speak for the metropolitan areas of Texas but I have family in law enforcement in addition to an uncle who is a judge who all tell me that no one they know would accost a person licensed to carry in prohibited locations. My family connections cover 6 different counties, all rural, but the feeling is that lawful people should not be bothered with the restrictions. I have specifically been told by 2 law enforcement officials who teach CHL classes that they appreciate any law abiding citizen who happens to keep their weapon well concealed in off-limits areas. Of course, that’s all off the record and you never know when you might run into the goober of an officer with something to prove but I don’t personally know officers or court officials who are anti-2nd amendment in our region. They tend to want to have the well informed backup.

I wish my area was the same. There are those would be all right in the law enforcement community, but there are enough that do not feel that way, including members of the judiciary, that it is a difficult decision to make to do that kind of thing. Though I would never ever in a million years violate the law, it does make one wonder about those instances in which one forgets to disarm before going in because you have spent the money and experimented enough with your carry technique that you do not think of the fact that you are armed. I know some to whom that has happened, but as long as there are no security check points (of which there are more all the time), the concealment normally will be enough to keep the dogs at bay.

It only takes one hard ass to ruin your day.

My luck I’d have a heart attack and the EMTs would find it.

How you like the security detail on the inside? It’s like entering an airport terminal isn’t it.

Yes, the security immediately as you enter the building is pretty tough... you have to empty your pockets and go through the metal detector. As I understand it, this gunman had a rifle (not a pistol) and basically the shootings/rampage took place directly outside the building and in the parking lot. So, none of this really seems like a security flaw.

Additionally, so many of us here in Texas have a gun pretty handy, so there’s a limit to how long these things can go on before somebody steps in and puts a stop to it. Although I left the parking lot about an hour before things began, I certainly had a loaded revolver there in my car myself, and would have immediately grabbed it and tried to take the guy out.

How does (one):

reportedly opens fire?

Either one opens fire, or one doesn't.
