President Obama is digging in on the Keystone XL pipeline. He is "personally lobbying Democrats to reject an amendment calling for its construction," Politico reports.
The White House lobbying effort, including phone calls from the president to Democrats, signals that the vote could be close when it heads to the floor Thursday. The president is trying to defeat an amendment that would give election-year fodder to his Republican critics who have accused him of blocking a job-creating energy project at a time of high gas prices.
The amendment, proposed by Sen. John Hoeven (R-N.D.), states that Obama would have no role in such cross-border permitting decisions since, in this case, the pipeline would originate in Canada. The measure would need 60 votes to pass, and Obama has already lost two Democrats who back the proposal - Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Mary Landrieu - and is at risk of losing more moderates and vulnerable Democrats.
The Keystone XL pipeline would create an estimated 20,000 jobs and, likely, drive down the price of gasoline in the long run. It would seem to be a good move at a time of high unemployment and high gas prices.
And, in fact, most Americans like the idea of the Keystone pipeline. According to a November poll, of likely U.S. voters, 60 percent "at least somewhat favor building the pipeline which President Obama has delayed until at least 2013 because of environmental concerns."
I don’t know. Everyone in congress seems to have this fear of going against the King.
“I dont know. Everyone in congress seems to have this fear of going against the King.”
Not really. Why do you think he caved on the Bush tax cuts year before last? Because, he did not have support to let them expire. Nelson (Ne) breaks from him all the time.
Translation:
Obama wants to lose the White House.
The Dems want to lose the Senate.
This is like nailing your own foot to the floor when a fire breaks out.
The republicans in the senate need to bring up this amendment up to vote every week now up thru the election. This will be easy to do as gas prices go up every week. Let the jackass dems vote this down every week as gas approaches $5 and unemployment goes up.
> 2. She recently voted against the bill which would exclude
> Catholic hospitals from abortion/contraception (She is
> Catholic, supposedly)
If that is true, she should have been IMMEDIATELY and very PUBLICLY EXCOMMUNICATED, along with every other “Catholic” or “Christian” that supports *ANY* pro-abortion measure.
But American churches, Evangelical as well as Catholic, are too gutless to discharge their Biblical responsibilities.
Go for it, Barry. Make our day.
The only thing I’d like better than seeing Senate Dems
up in November kill this is seeing you veto it.
Interesting story on Obama thugs wanting Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper gone. Spooky dude Soros involved.
Obama working on the Fundamental Transformation of Canada
If the Democrats in the senate do not wake up . . . they’re going to find their asses out of office in November!
Yeah but when Canada is already out of the Obama recession I doubt that will happen.
An interesting side note to the battle over the Keystone pipeline is that China is a major partner in the Canadian oil project, the same Chinese off-shore (outside China) oil company owns one third of Chesapeake Energy, the company that the Sierra Club is partnering with.
So, the Sierra Club made themselves partners with the Chinese that are pushing for the Keystone pipeline.
If you want to know why the Keystone Pipeline has been vetoed, here is the reason.
Venezuela has an enormous deposit of heavy sour crude that is nearly identical to the Alberta tar sands. The US oil refineries are designed especially for this heavy oil because Venezuela is nearby and before Chavez, it was politically stable.
The majority of the worlds oil refineries are designed for Arabian Light, not Venezuelan Heavy.
The Keystone pipeline would have replaced the Venezuelan oil with Canadian oil. Also the Venezuelan oil would be hard to refine and would have to be shipped a long distance if the Canadian oil displaced it and as a result, undesireable.
The veto of the Keystone pipline is to keep Chavez in power.

Located in eastern Venezuela, north of the Orinoco River, the Orinoco Oil Belt is of a similar geographic extent as that of the Canadian oil sands. The deposits are not bitumen per se but extra-heavy oil. (Natural bitumen and extra-heavy oil are closely related types of petroleum, differing from each other only in the degree by which they have been degraded from the original crude oil by bacteria and erosion.)
But American churches, Evangelical as well as Catholic, are too gutless to discharge their Biblical responsibilities.
You said it all. Where is her parish priest? Her Bishop? Pelosi’s parish priest/bishop? I hear that in some parts of the country some are updating the 10 Commandments and of course the age old belief the bible is a book mainly of stories. Such beliefs are a scourge. Gutless priests/bishops should have excommunicated Pelosi and Landrieu long ago along with other Catholic who believe in abortion but you said it - gutless.
not to mention there is nothing Canadians hate more than snooty, elitist foreigners sticking their noses into Canada’s business.
Thanks Army Air Corps
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
To Landrieu’s peril, I hope. She knows her constituents want Oil drilling - it is the life blood of certain parts of Louisiana. She doesn't represent the people of Louisiana and that is a fact! I think she is up for re-election in 2014 and I hope that no amount of money can save her this time.
She will NOT run in 2014...
BTW..you also have a very interestering congressional primiary coming up..incumbents Landy ( a really good guy) can send Boustany home..
Manchin needs to switch his Party affiliation. He votes with republicans more than Democrats.
