CLEVELAND - A 78-year-old man said he acted in self-defense Thursday night when he shot a teen trying to break into his Cleveland home.
Ted Ziolkowksi rents the house on the 7400 block of Clement Avenue. He said he was staying there last night because he was making some repairs to his place.
Around 11 p.m. Ziolkowski heard a knock on his back door, but didn't answer. Moments later, he heard someone trying to break in. He said he pushed the door open and shot the intruder.
"I just fired a shot at him. He was standing right there. I just fired one shot and my gun jammed, Ziolkowski said.
Officials told NewsChannel5 the intruder is a 17-year-old boy. Police reports said the teen was shot in his torso and when police responded, a hand gun, a pry bar and a head scarf were laying next him.

Proper gun maintenance is a must. Making sure your firearm will function with the ammo you use is a close second.
Get off my lawn.....
I can't blame him for packing and shooting.
Maybe 17-year-old burglars will NOT thing twice but maybe the slightly OLDER burglars will.
Get off MY LAWN!
a well oiled revolver will give you more maintenance free hours than a semi auto.....unless you shoot it all the time and know its whims...stick with that revolver....
I guarantee that the perp was one of “Holder’s People” and Cleveland is a cess-pool of tribal culture.
This story is obviously a cry to OUTLAW HEADSCARFS!!!!
Soon, only criminals will have headscarfs!
What sane person would doubt it? It wasn’t a 17 year old ‘boy’. They get mad when you call them that.

The ‘yute’ has been arrested for aggravated burglary.
“The yute remained in Metrohealth Medical Center under police guard. His mother said late Friday afternoon that “he’s fighting for his life.”
“She said her son had been in trouble with the law before. She also said he’d been shot before, when he was 14 and he caught a stray bullet in the leg during a gang shootout in which he was not involved.”
“This time he (the yute) “had a screwdriver and popped out the lock. When he pushed open the door I fired one shot,” Ziolkowski. The intruder slumped against the door, and the old man couldn’t open it so he called 911.
The 11 p.m. break-in was the second one of the day, he said. That morning someone had broken into the upstairs apartment “and the carpet had been cut out.”
Between the two burglaries, intruders “busted out three of my doors, the back door, one to the downstairs apartment and one to the upstairs. They’re the old type and you can’t buy them anymore. So I’ll get steel ones and steel jambs. They want a fortune for those.”
Ziolkowski used a .32 cal. Beretta pistol. “I never shot anybody before, not outside of a deer,” he said. “It was dark there and he looked awful big to me.”
The shooting will be reviewed by the city prosecutor, police said. Ziolkowski said he would drop off his weapon at the 4th District Police Station for ballistics tests as police requested. They promised to return it to him. was armed, according to police. They did not identify the weapon, but Ziolkowski said investigators told him it was an ancient chrome-plated .32 cal. Smith & Wesson semi-automatic.”
I had to hit the link to read at the end of the entire piece that the popped perp was only injured in the shooting.
I guess I'm just a doddering old dinosauer flailing about in the modern journalistic forest preserves of life.

They already made a movie about it!
Wait, don’t tell me..he was getting his life back on track and he was an aspiring rapper.
The police should have loaners to exchange for the duration and as collateral.

Sounds like a good idea, criminals self-identifying with head scarfs.
