Who Will Be Obama’s Next Supreme Court Pick? Blog Points to California AG Kamala Harris
ABA Journal ^ | 2/15/2012 | Debra Cassens Weiss

Who will be the next justice to retire, and who will be nominated to replace that person?

SCOTUSblog does some prognosticating and says California Attorney General Kamala Harris could be the next nominee tapped for the U.S. Supreme Court, replacing Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. There's one big problem, though: Harris may not want the job.

“In the lists of names, only one truly stands out as checking every box: Kamala Harris,” Goldstein writes. Like the president, she is biracial, and she will be 50 years old in 2015. She is liberal, but she has a law enforcement background.

The only problem is that Harris could pass up a Supreme Court nomination because she would be early in her second term as attorney general at that point.

Another “serious possibility” is Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, who knows the president from their service together in the Illinois legislature. Goldstein names seven other contenders, including former Michigan Attorney General Jennifer Granholm and two women with pending nominations to federal appeals courts: former New York solicitor general Caitlin Halligan and U.S. District Judge Jacqueline Nguyen.

Sonia Sotomayor was not at the State of the Union address. Anyone know why?

Ginsburg will probably die right on the bench while hearing a case but everyone will just think she is taking another one of her naps.

FReepers who say “I refuse to vote for ______ if he is the nominee” should read this scary article to realize how idiotic that is.

There were rumors for a while that the left-wing socialist governor of Massachusetts, Deval “tax ‘em all” Patrick, was on Obama’s list for SCOTUS.

I think if Obama got three choices in a (please no) second term, he’d nominate the supposedly reverend Jeremiah Wright, Sean Penn and Van Jones.

If it is this year, and he is sure he will lose the election, I wouldn’t put it past him to nominate himself and drop his campaign. The dems would agree because they’d get Hillary a Lifestyle Lift and a haircut and nominate her for POTUS...they’d be glad to vote for Zero in the Senate and I’m sure he could find a RINO or two (hiya, McCain) to put him over the threshold. After all, he taught Constitutional law, someone said once.

Are people in the kitchen known as Residence Staff? I want to know who got their fingers cut off. Sometimes things happen in the kitchen but how the heck did a life threatening injury involving amputation of fingers happen???

It is interesting to me that Ginsburg doesn’t retire before Obama could be out. Of course, she still has time .

Even the milquetoast GOP won't permit Obama another SCOTUS pick before the election.

Well, remember that this is an election year. If she retired now, or in the summer after this year’s Supreme Court session is done, there would be a huge confirmation battle. And that confirmation battle would be a major campaign issue this year.

Let’s all remember, that of 33 Senate seats up for election this year, 23 are Democrats, a number of whom are vulnerable for re-election. It’s possible that Republicans will control the Senate come next January. Then, if Obama is re-elected, and Ginsburg retires, Obama will have a much tougher time appointing a strong liberal.

Or I should say, he will have a tough time appointing that liberal, unless he continues to make recess appointments to positions and not be challenged on doing so.

I don’t think Ruthie has any intention of retiring. My fondest wish is that she lives 15 minutes past Newt’s inaugeration.

Yah, that’s great. We need a flaming communist, there seems to be a shortage of those on the SC.

I agree with you.

And furthermore, I have heard that conservatives in the Senate will stonewall this one, until past the election.

One thing about the Kenyan guy, you don’t have to know jack about anything and can have a single digit I.Q. With Barry, a “compelling life story” is all you need to be able to sit on the court and trump the will of the American people.

Kamala Harris is a loony lefty (California's and Jerry "Moonbeam" Brown's Attorney General Kamala Harris, and previously the choice of "moonbats" of San Francisco for District Attorney).

The ultra-radical values she would bring to the SCOTUS, can be foreseen by her below statement:

"Let's also talk about creating a campaign around reducing not the crime but the fear of crime...Let's talk about that. If we, as a goal, decide that we want more people to just stop being afraid, because they're perhaps afraid of much more than they have reason to be afraid of, perhaps we can start to change the discussion about what we need to do about fear because we won't have so many people worried about the bogeyman."

Source/Link

Yes, San Francisco's DA and California's AG thinks that Law Enforcement should be directed to reduce not crime but the fear of crime. How's that for an Obamatista transformation for the SCOTUS and the nation?

See, this is my point. We have a fighting chance with a
Republican’s SCOTUS picks. Some suck, some are great.

Reagan: great job w/Scalia, sucked when he picked O’Connor.
Bush I: awesome w/Thomas, sucked at Souter

None of the Democrat Presidents have picked a good SCOUTS. We have got to elect a Republican, even if they are not our first choice.

Maybe Obama will nominate his illegal uncle.

He was arrested for DUI a while back while driving with an illegally obtained license. Surprise, he got a top law firm to represent him and they’re going after the driving records of the LEO who arrested him.

He’s still living on the dole and apparently employed at - are you ready for this - a liquor store! A Muslim working at a liquor store?

Anyway, he’s going to need a better job, so why not?

Politicians are scum.

Obozo has painted Ginsburg into a corner. He needs her on the Supreme Court to cast her vote to uphold ObozoCare. That decision is not likely to be handed down until August or September so she cannot retire until after that case. As soon as that case is decided, the Congress will be in recess to compaign for themselves and their friends. That means the Senate will not take up any nominee until the current Congress returns. Harry Reid may try to hold hearings and schedule a vote during the lame duck session, but I doubt he would be successful. My prediction that Justice Ginsburg will succumb to her cancer while sitting on the bench in last Spring of 2013 still stands.
