National Review ^ | 2/16/2012 | Charles C. W. Cooke

Rick Santorum made an odd comment in North Dakota on Wednesday. Praising the state for its energy production, he warned his audience that its success in the field might lead to terrorist attacks. CNN reports:

Rick Santorum warned a quiet North Dakota audience Wednesday that their state’s booming oil industry positioned the region as a prime target for terrorism.

“Folks, you’ve got energy here. They’re going to bother you

"And you are demonstrating just how stupid you are."
Unlike you I served my country in a "security" capacity for a very, very long time and gained several rows of ribbons doing it. It's something I know quite a bit about.

"Ohhhh pack up your king-sized ego in your ol' kit bag, and snarl, snarl, snarl!", i.e., it ain't all about you bub.

Now take it back.

Wah, wah. Where are you posting from, the playground of your neighborhood elementary school?

You're emerging as a disgrace to this revered forum.

Grow a hide Clyde, "politics ain't beanbag" said Finley Peter Dunne, you might want to think about that.

Well fine, thing is, nobody even asks the guy in 4th place. They won’t even bother.

Because who cares?

'But having said that he may well be right. If I were the terrorists instead of trying to hit the expected targets I’d try to go after someplace rural and unexpected. The goal of terrorism is to terrorize (duh!).'
true. but terrorists very rarely will call themselves, or believe they are terrorists. They believe they are soliders in a war, or holy mission. So they will choose targets that they feel have a strategic or spiritual value. Or at least one they can 'claim' is a valid target. They have difficulty mailing a postal bomb to Grandma McTuff in the middle of no where Montana and then claim a moral or strategic victory to their followers.

No, you’re wrong about that. We want a candidate with half a brain and the ability to think before he speaks. Someone like Newt Gingrich.

Exactly...energy infrastructure; power plants; pipelines. All targets. But let’s ignore that real risk and discuss BIRF CONTROL!!! Nothing more important than sex...until an Iranian; a Jihadist blows up something...and the then maybe the dumbed down populace will notice.

Not a single mention of US Oil Production Facilities.

The ABC link reported an alert of a potential cyber attack against US facilities. The rest were about the growing terrorist attacks against pipelines and facilities around the world. Are we playing the "can't happen here" game? That was a party favorite back in the 90's. Good luck with that.

But a shale field in North Dakota? Laughable at best.

I just re-read the article. For the second time, I missed the part where he warned of the shale field bombing. Maybe you could point it out for the rest of us who don't have the special decoder glasses.

Newt has been brain dead for years. If you think that pudgy white haired old derelict is gonna win, you need a brain readjustment. If people wanted him, he would be ahead as we speak. But you see, nobody wants his line of liberal BS and lipspeak in order to get elected.

Sorry dude.

Exactly. The terrorists already blew it up using their most effective weapons.

There is no intelligence in the public domain that would suggest terrorists would attack this proposed pipeline, the ND oil fields or any other production facility.

Any other production facility? I beg to differ. Some have been targets before.

The Daniel Lewis event wasn't terrorism, just a drunken fool. But examples on other facilities exist as well.

"Agreed. I can see the SNL sketch now (think “I can see Russia from my house”)"

It's been year's since I watched it. Is SNL still "Live from New York"? I'm sure jokes about unprecedented, unexpected terrorist attacks will go over really well there.

I thought Newt was the one whose statements we had to worry about! Isn’t that right, Rick? That’s what you told us in the debates.

I stand corrected.

2 cases of eco-terrois, one drunk and a reveling posting on a terrorist website.

It counts.

Yes, and those are the terrorists that Newt wants to deal with...the EPA.

But Rick can refine his position of N.D. being a target of Iran. It might come in handy if he’s Mitt’s VP..you know..in a debate with Joe Biden.

....Newt supporters criticize Rick Santorum for being prepared for terrorist attacks from Iran ?

We should be prepared for all attacks. However, threatening people in ND during a campaign speech is downright stupid and irresponsible. It shows his lack of insight into national security.

Too many have seen the occasional fires of a natural gas or oil facility burning up (not due to terrorism). The potential for news and even financial impact is too great a target for some to pass up.

I could turn countless Obama speeches and comments into major issues.

Any of us could do that. The problem is that none of us could get them past the Obama cheerleader gatekeepers at the the MSM.
