Ready to say goodbye to a sliver of your Snickers? And how about a slightly slimmer Mars bar? By the end of 2013, chocolate-maker Mars says all of its chocolate bars will be under or right at the 250-calorie mark.
With all the fixation on our civilization's expanding waistlines, it's not that there are bad foods, just big foods. That means you won't be seeing lower-calorie chocolate or caramel just less of it.
And the company says it wants to be an industry leader, helping its customers enjoy "responsible snacking." It sort of reminds me of beer manufacturers' campaigns for responsible drinking.

Really? I picked up a six pack of Budweiser the other day in these new spun-aluminum bottles and when I got home I realized I'd purchased six 16-ounce beers versus six 12-ounce beers.
I wasn't terribly disappointed.
That’s probably more the influence of MBAs than MooseChelle.
Bump and grind-
WTF is Moochelle doing?

Bump and grind-
“They kept making it smaller and smaller to keep it at a nickle, and finally they jacked up the price.”
You’re right about that; now I see stores selling “regular size” candy bars in a discount bin at a “sale price” of $.89, that I’ve never paid more than $.50 for (and still wouldn’t). Even the “pick-a-mix” (penny candy, like star-lite mints or small gum balls) now comes in $.99 bag for 20 pieces. I never see anyone buy them, either; the ones in the stores are probably 15 years old by now.
We’re lucky; when the Khmer Rouge put Cambodia on a diet it all happened in about a week.
I remember when Bazooka gum started putting those ridges in it (that were invisible until you opened the wrapper); must’ve stretched 17 pieces of gum into 20 with that move...
In this case it has to with our peculiar imperial measurements. 12oz is 1/3 of a kilogram, which happens to be a common container size throughout the rest of the world. This is just standardization, nothing more.
And let us not forget the latest meme.
Whipped chocolate, now with Air Bubbles tm., new New NEW.
4/5ths the chocolate at the same price, what a concept.
“It was orginally made by Ludens, and was similiar to Butterfinger only softer and MUCH better.
It was covered in milk chocolate with almonds on top.
Hersheys bought it and discontinued the almonds.”
Not Ludens, Curtiss. one of the great companies absorbed by Mars/Hershey/Nestle oligopoly. Like Leaf, Peter Paul, Bonomo, Heide, nd whoever used to make goobers, Raisinets and snocaps, among others.
“Can you imagine Laura being photographed like this?”
Any “First Lady”, for that matter. I thought we had hit rock bottom when BJ Clinton was elected, and even more so when he was RE-elected; I was wrong on both counts. American white trash was still better than unassimilated, anti-American trash.
It all gets back to ONE THING, AND ONE THING ONLY!
The government just will not admit that there's any price inflation. And the rest of the world just plays along. We hear it all the time. Not a tiny little bit of inflation. Who are you going to believe? The soothsayers in the Obama regime and their ministry of propaganda, or your lying eyes and wallet?
Just because you can no longer buy a 1/2 gallon carton of OJ (they're now 59oz, down from 64), a package of hot dogs now has 7, rather than 8 franks, maybe to help hide the fact that the weight of the package has dropped from 16 down to 12oz, and a can of tuna fish has gone from 6oz to 5oz, while at the same time, all of the above HAVE increased in price!
No inflation? No, none at all, according to the apologists in the ministry of propaganda. Look how home prices have dropped (how many home owners are happy about that???!!!) and computer and consumer electronic prices have dropped? I found myself shouting at the television, "HOW MANY HOMES, COMPUTERS, and CONSUMER ELECTRONIC DEVICES DO YOU BUY EVERY WEEK, YOU F*@&#NG MORON!?!?!?
My monthly utility bills have gone up, as has the cost of every gallon of gasoline I buy so I can go to work every day! As has the cost of everything that I have to buy on a regular basis!
I am getting so sick and tired of the ministry of propaganda telling me that I should just ignore that shower of piss down my back, don't worry, after all, it's only raining!
Mark
They still sell them in my neighborhood. I had no idea they once had almonds on top (imagine that, with the soft peanut brittle interior enrobed in rich milk chocolate). I remember vaguely that they were once made by Ludens (who also made the cough drops).
As long as they’re halal...
Acting as a disgrace, as usual.
I don’t have a problem with this as long as they lower the price on the lack of candy that we are buying. They price should be the same as buying two of the new candy bars on what was the price of one prior to the change.
Yeh..when Luden’s made them they had almonds on top.
(odd- a company known for cough drops making a candy bar, huh?)
They were SO good!
I live in Corpus Christi, Tx and it is rare that I can still find a 5th Avenue.
Man, did you hit the nail on the head!
New healthier size, same great price!
