A Colorado high school student quit the school choir after an Islamic song containing the lyric "there is no other truth except Allah" made it into the repertoire.
James Harper, a senior at Grand Junction High School in Grand Junction, put his objection to singing "Zikr," a song written by Indian composer A.R. Rahman, in an email to Mesa County School District 51 officials. When the school stood by choir director Marcia Wieland's selection, Harper quit.
"I dont want to come across as a bigot or a racist, but I really dont feel it is appropriate for students in a public high school to be singing an Islamic worship song, Harper told KREX-TV. "This is worshipping another God, and even worshipping another prophet ... I think there would be a lot of outrage if we made a Muslim choir say Jesus Christ is the only truth."
But district spokesman Jeff Kirtland defended the decision to include the song.
"Choral music is often devoted to religious themes. ... This is not a case where the school is endorsing or promoting any particular religion or other non-educational agenda. The song was chosen because its rhythms and other qualities would provide an opportunity to exhibit the musical talent and skills of the group in competition, not because of its religious message or lyrics," Kirtland told FoxNews.com in an email while noting that the choir "is a voluntary, after-school activity."
"Students are not required to participate, and receive no academic credit for doing so," he said.
At an upcoming concert, the choir is scheduled to sing an Irish folk song and an Christian song titled "Prayer of the Children," in addition to the song by Rahman.
"The teacher consulted with students and asked each of them to review an online performance of the...

Or better yet, the Spike Jones version.
Love your choice of hymn!
Perhaps a compromise would be for the choir to sing this song next Christmas?

I’m not old enough or blase enough to “enjoy the slide” and I guess I never will be.
This is not a game.
LOL - good on you, BE! :-)
That's a demonstrable lie. The lyric "there is no other truth except Allah" IS the promotion of Islam. That's the EXACT argument schools use to not only throw out Christmas music, but even the WORD Christmas itself.
Jeff Kirtland is a lying scumbag, pandering to a fake religion hiding a political movement that would enslave his wife and kill his sorry ass dead. In other words, he's a liberal public school employee.
Betcha the ACLU will have something to say about that.
No, it doesn’t. Try it.
I feel as if singing music is accepting of other religions, which any Christian would be.
...many paths, one God
Jesus taught us to go out into the world and preach the "Good News" and that those who turned us away, made us unwelcome, wouldn't open the door...we are instructed to shake the dust from our sandles.
Leaving an unbeliever with the dust from our sandles is not accepting of other religions. It says we will not waste our time on them once the "Word" has been delivered to them. We are to accept that it is their choice and we are to move on to bring the "Good News" to someone else.
We are not to go in and party on down with another religion or false god.
I tried all three links I posted in this thread and all take me to the link that was intended so I’m not sure what you are seeing or talking about. The first two: one is a video link to You Tube. One is another link to the story. And in post #8 is an FR link to the Iranian bomber story.
You know what kids should do? Where t-shirts to school with the image of Mohammed on them.
You need glasses.

Wear.
Isn’t music forbuidden in the ROP, I saw that on an episode of Sharia Law and Order.
Singing is a powerful indoctrination tool. The children in the school who will be forced to attend the assemblies where it is sung will be "groomed" ( just like pedophiles "groom" children) to be more accepting of Islam and conversion to this religion.
Axiom: It is impossible to have a religiously, politically, or culturally neutral education.
The inclusion or exclusion of this Muslim song is merely one example among thousands illustrating why this axiom is true. Whether it is included or excluded by the government chorus director has non-neutral consequences for all of the students who participate in the chorus or attend the assemblies where it is sung.
Fundamentally, government schools are a First Amendment and a freedom of conscience abomination because they **will** uphold and establish the religious, political, and cultural worldview of the most powerful voting mob, and trash those values of those with less power.
There is a solution complete separation of school and state.
(Not proof read)
Jeff Kirtland is a hater and is happy to take any opportunity to poke a stick in the eye of Christians.

Marcia Wieland and Jeff Kirtland are haters of Christians and all those who cling to their guns, families, and religion.
Questions all parents should be asking:
How many other haters of American and Christian values are teaching at or administrating at our nation's temples of godless Marxism ( oops! "schools")?
How many times a day do these haters "groom" children to be accepting of false religions ( and homosexuality and/or pedophilia)?
You obviously don't see a problem, that's why I said you are probably on the wrong site. Your blind spot will always leave you confused about things that are being dicussed.
The local news (Fox affiliate) keeps playing an interview with an imam who calls the kid ignorant because he doesn’t know that allah is the same god worshiped by Christians and Jews. I keep hoping they’ll interview a real minister who will refute this. Not holding my breath, though.
