Students Forced to Eat School Lunch to Supplement Home Made Lunch
Civitas Institute ^ | 2/14/12 | Matt Willoughby

A mother in Hoke County complains her daughter was forced to eat a school lunch because a government inspector determined her home-made lunch did not meet nutrition requirements. In fact, all of the students in the NC Pre-K program classroom at West Hoke Elementary School in Raeford had to accept a school lunch in addition to their lunches brought from home.

He suggested that our child be put on some ‘medication’ to facilitate her education

I have a cousin who had ADHD (he's adopted, I suspect Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, but that's just an opinion). His (adoptive) parents did everything they could think of.... to no avail. So, they relented and put him on medication and the difference in his grades was immediate. He went from D's and F's to A's and B's, overnight. And, he took up extracurricular activities to boot. Wound up with a Master's Degree and teaches "at risk" students in the inner city. A classic success story. I've watched him work with kids, and some of the stuff he does is nothing short of miraculous.

That's one. Out of what - several dozen? - kids I've known over the years who were medicated. IMHO - again, I'm no doc - the rest just needed to have parents who were interested. And, not afraid to sit on the occasionally. And, most important, educators who were not afraid of a challenge.

Meds - except for a specific few - are the lazy way out. Truly, we will reap what we sow.

The issue is that 9 out of 10 kids are put on meds when they need better parenting or discipline at school. Of course when Meds will eventually get debunked in society the children like your cousin (who really need the meds) will suffer the most.

I had a progressive once tell me, flat out, that our kids did not belong to us, and it was the state’s responsibility to raise them.

It may be far fetched, but after hearing a father call into Rush's show today and say that he had to sign an agreement with a preschool regarding the contents of a packed lunch, I see something sinister in this that reminds me of what went on in Hitler's Germany. The government dictates certain terms, that if not followed, could have economic repercussions on a family. Also, you have those who choose not to go along eventually being ridiculed and ostracized by those who obey. Call me crazy, but, with this bunch, who knows....

“I told her to stop stuffing the children and wait for lunch for them to eat like normal people. “

I went to Prep School, and we had “Milk and Crackers” at 10:15. We always called it “Milt and Crackers.”

“More than likely it’s to boost the numbers of kids eating school lunches in order to get Federal money or something like that.”

There ya go.

This sure seems like government fines and fees without due process. The State wants to sell lunches so they are deeming parent provided lunches as illegal and substituting State lunches for a fee.

Have the kids eat off campus.

Have the kids learn off campus, too.

In fact, make sure the kids never set foot on campus in the first place.

Private school ... home school ... either way, the kids are free from the petty tyrants in the government run socialist indoctrination centers.

That’s scary. Our parents tended to give school’s the benefit of the doubt because, for the most part, they did their jobs and did them well. But today, I don’t see how any parent can deal with the crapola coming out of public schools.

I feel pretty sure the whole idea is to do away with the homemade lunch so all the little robots eat the same thing.

No. It's more insidious.

They want government to be viewed as the real caregiver and provider.

In Illinois, there are no from home lunches. They're forbidden. In many states, breakfast is offered as well. Meal programs can even last year round whether school is in session or not.

Now we see in North Carolina -- NORTH CAROLINA! -- they accept government telling children their parents aren't feeding them correctly. And being the grandparent, the nanny.

Moving beyond the abortion consent issue, in California thirteen year olds can give direct consent on vaccinations like Gardasil without parental involvement or notification.

In education where parents cannot have CHOICE, parental views, values and faith necessarily gives way to governmental secular humanism.

Free speech is not free if you fall afoul of the government's official position on a topic from evolution to to parenting to appropriate behavior to homosexuality to abortion to marriage to any arbitrary thing.

The Left is plays a multilevel game of seduction with children.

Mom needs to pull her kid from that program. I guarantee her that lunchtime isn’t the only time they’re working to undermine her parental authority.
