Riding a wave of momentum from his trio of victories on Tuesday Rick Santorum has opened up a wide lead in PPP's newest national poll. He's at 38% to 23% for Mitt Romney, 17% for Newt Gingrich, and 13% for Ron Paul.
Part of the reason for Santorum's surge is his own high level of popularity. 64% of voters see him favorably to only 22% with a negative one. But the other, and maybe more important, reason is that Republicans are significantly souring on both Romney and Gingrich. Romney's favorability is barely above water at 44/43, representing a 23 point net decline from our December national poll when he was +24 (55/31). Gingrich has fallen even further. A 44% plurality of GOP voters now hold a negative opinion of him to only 42% with a positive one. That's a 34 point drop from 2 months ago when he was at +32 (60/28).

You know you need 1144 delegates to win right? If no one has that many then we get a brokered convention. Probably the best thing for us at this point.
But, back to those incoherent mumblings from Santorum, (he had the audacity to call a speech) even my dog begged me to turn the channel! My wife left the room and I opened a cookbook to find a good recipe for beef jerky.
And then came Newt Gingrich.......what a contrast! And the electorate must have the attention span of a 3 year old, to ignore what Newt has to say, or his ability to say it! It was nothing short of awe inspiring and electrifying! It's embarrassing to watch this ship of fools who calls themselves the CONservative base, so caught up in their arrogant opinions of themselves, turn their backs on the most intellectual solution and most obvious professional who is qualified and capable to fix this mess, only to go for a moronic dolt like Santorum with totally blind abandon.
Do you have any idea why?

Didn’t ask me but because Santorum isn’t black.
We’ve been in trouble for a very long time.
2) His “dork optics” have just carried him to double any other candidates polling numbers in this poll.
3) Yea, I hate the sweater vest thing; it's dorky. He looks a lot better in a jacket.
You SHOULD stick to your own opinion, in regards to critique. Mine is perfectly OK in it’s own right.
You might need a ladder to help yourself off of your “high horse” though, I would not want you to hurt yourself.
PF, Rick gave a speech near Scranton in October, before his maddening schedule peaked, and there was nary a stumble or stammer. 45 minutes. NO prompter! He is fighting fatigue now, but he is NOT stopping, and I thought that he delivered a masterful speech yesterday, through it all. *Extremely* powerful message. Bob
No, YOU have no shame, and I don’t see any need to defend myself against such a ridiculous charge. HAND.
No, my job is pointing out the obvious to those who somehow manage to miss it.
Santorum/Allen West
You’re right, Mondale was much closer to the truth on both counts.
Time to rally around Rick I guess.
Time to rally around Rick I guess.
Give me a break.....Santorum is simply Sarah Palin in a Sweater Vest as far as you are concerned. There is no point in discussing it with you. So I won’t even try.
Really? You are on an opinion board telling me to stick to my own opinions rather than pointing out how inane your opinions are about other people’s opinions. (Even though their opinions aren’t what you made them out to be in the first place.)
Just how high does my horse look from up there... I mean up there on your high-horse?
>> Id sure rather vote for Santorum than skip voting for president because Romneys on the ballot; but Santorum is just not going to win the nomination. Of that I am certain.
Well, we’ll see how Santorum looks 2 weeks and $15 mil of Mitt’s TV money later. There is certainly abundant material for Mitt’s Death Star to work on: Santorum’s education scam, Santorum’s PAC scam, his union support etc.
Too bad Pawlenty or Perry bailed out so fast, by now they would be getting the second look for sure
There's an implied equivalency in that, yet I hear Romney was overwhelmingly more negative in both quantity and quality.
