Democrats to continue Internet coup with new cyber bill

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, following a recent anti-piracy legislative debacle with SOPA and PIPA, will lead his second effort of 2012 to push Internet-regulating legislation, this time in the form of a new cybersecurity bill. The expected bill is the latest attempt by the Democrats to broadly expand the authority of executive branch agencies over the Internet.
Details about the bill remain shrouded in secrecy. Clues available to the public suggest that the bill might be stronger than President Barack Obamas cybersecurity proposal, which was released in May 2011. Reid said that he would bring the bill expected to come out of the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, chaired by Connecticut independent Sen. Joe Lieberman to the floor during the first Senate work period of 2012.

I am leaving this country soon. I'm curious as to where you found that has more freedom. Russia? hard language to learn.

Don't let the door hit you in the *ss on your way out.
I sure won't. Enjoy your stay at the Gulag.
Laz, you and a bunch of Americans are doing what prudent Germans did (or should have done) in the years leading up to 1937, they GTF out of Nazi Germany before the SHTF.
And you're always going to have some little dweeb sneering away at you. They'll either end up in a FEMA camp somewhere, or they'll sell out to the 0bamunists.

Im glad our founders didnt take this advice.I am too, however, the Founders faced a distant enemy at a time when travel and messages were very slow; when your domestic government could not track you by the second; when your domestic government didn't have chemical agents and heavy armored vehicles.

They risked their lives against a foe no one thought could be beaten, without advantages we now have. It's not as bleak as you paint it to be, but if some people choose to leave that is their prerogative. To paraphrase Samuel Adams, We seek neither their counsel or their arms, and may posterity forget they were our countrymen.

Im glad our founders didnt take this advice.
Our Founders were faced with an entirely different set of dynamics and anyone with a room temperature IQ ought to know that. We are not faced with King George and his Redcoats today, we are faced with a dictatorial regime with all of the moral scruples of Stalin, Hitler or Mao.
And that regime operates above the law, not answering to anyone or accounting in any way for their actions. Our vaunted 'two party system' has been utterly corrupted and is evolving into something little different than the single column of 'candidates' that were 'nominated' by the old Soviet Communists, and the only choice you had were to 'approve' or 'not approve', and if you wanted to avoid a trip to Siberia, you knew you better 'approve'.
It is all well and good to spout off about what our 'Founders' would have done, however our grand ancestors did NOT have to deal with instantaneous transmission of information in audio/video form, they were not under the sort of surveillance that is available to our tyrannical masters, and they for damn sure did not have to face the massive firepower and munitions up to and including tactical nukes that can be brought to bear against us. Anybody here think that 0bama and his crew would never consider using a tactical nuke somewhere deep in Red State (real) America? Raise your hands.
During the darkest days of World War II in Britain, Sir Winston Churchill was mentally prepared to fight on from Canada if need be, had the British home territories fallen to Nazi Germany (that's one reason why the UK sent all of it's gold reserves TO Canada earlier in the War). Well bearing that in mind Mr. Durus, I submit to you and anyone else who cares to listen, that in OUR case, the Nazis are already HERE, our fascist overlords in Washington are expanding their control over us each and every day, they are already beginning the crackdown, starting with those 'Sovereign Citizens' who have been classified as terrorists by the FBI.
How many files and dossiers would anyone like to speculate have already been assembled of FReepers on this website?
God Bless JimRob, the Feds would have to pry our IP addresses from his broken hands if they were to show up at his home (in my opinion), but I suspect they've already done enough 'packet sniffing' and other NSA-style snooping to figure out who-is-who, and who-is-where. Unless you (or anyone) as a FReeper have been using proxies and other privacy tools over the last 10 years, the odds are that your whereabouts are already well known.
Now it takes a lot of guts and courage to just stand up and face down whatever federal fascist thugs show up one day in your town, or perhaps on your front yard, and just say and go out in a blaze of glory, God bless any true Patriot who draws their own line in the sand and then enforces it, come what may.
But then what? You're dead. You might be remembered one day, you might even have a marker planted on the spot where you laid down your life for our Country. Depending on how many of those fascists you took with you, they might write poems and sing songs about you.
But I ask you: what if you were able to prepare for such a final confrontation with greater chances of success? If Churchill had climbed up to an antiaircraft battery and shouted "SCREW Hitler!!!" and inspired all of Britain in doing so, how much good would have been accomplished had he been lowered into the grave way too soon?
There is a time to die for every Patriot. However the wise Patriot will pick the time, not their enemies. If that involves figuratively 'leaving the UK for Canada' as Sir Winston was prepared to do, so be it. That isn't surrender, that's (as Sarah Palin herself would say) RELOADING.
That's the way I see it and I don't give a damn if anyone likes it or not.

Thanks again Smirking Chimp Bush and {Mr Internet Database} former Attorney General Gonzales for giving Dems bad ideas that dumb Republicans first supported. Even the so called Republican lawmakers in Tennessee are trying to start databases on new law abiding criminals on state level.

You seem pretty defensive for a guy that doesn't give a damn if anyone else likes it or not. Regardless as I've said it's your prerogative to leave if you wish.
That being said let's get a few things straight. First of all it doesn't matter if you are killed with a musket ball or a tactical nuke from orbit. Dead is dead. The colonists faced a far greater disparity of force than modern day patriots would face if a crack down were to begin. Almost all of the advantages the government would have against American citizens could be turned against them.
Now some of us might be the next Churchill that needs to retreat to prepare a counter strike in the name of freedom or whatever, but that attitide strikes me as being a bit...well...egomaniacal not to mention a bit premature.
This election cycle does in fact seem pretty absurd but let's face it, we the people are in fact choosing this stupidity. I know that is a hard thing to deal with but it's the truth. If Romney wins it's because the electorate chose him and when Obama crushes him, that will be the choice of the electorate as well. Until such a time when that isn't true, then it will be time to either run, fight or die, hopefully performing each action at the appropriate times.

Hate to be the one to tell you, but all this Internet censorship stuff is bipartisan. Lamar S. Smith (R-TX) introduced SOPA and was a staunch defender. Quite a few Republicans were behind PIPA.
Also, if this is the next generation of the “Internet kill switch” legislation, what you’ve heard is BS. Not ONE person has been able to show me in the text of the bill where the “kill switch” language was.

Don't kid yourself, I responded to your flippant "thank goodness our founders didn't take that advice" shot, so enjoy the ride.

How very kind of you.

Do tell. What 'advantages' are American citizens going to turn 'against' the federal regime? I point out also that your 'musket ball vs tactical nuke' comparison holds no water at all. What you fail to understand is that over the past 235 odd years, the accuracy and efficiency (not to mention kill power) of weapons have vastly increased. This means that the feds are able to kill dissidents in greater numbers and efficiency due to the superior technology that was not present at the time of the first American Revolution.
Now some of us might be the next Churchill that needs to retreat to prepare a counter strike in the name of freedom or whatever, but that attitide strikes me as being a bit...well...egomaniacal not to mention a bit premature.
Nobody knows who a future Churchill might be among the patriot masses, and as for being 'premature', what time table do you recommend, and how long should everyone wait to prepare?

If Romney ends up as the nominee, it will validate the suspicions of many Americans, which is that this electoral cycle is nothing but a charade, manipulated and orchestrated by the elites in BOTH parties, to the detriment of We The People.

This appears to be SOPA and the Fairness Doctrine, and “Hate crimes” legislation written into one bill. It would allow, for instance, the Obama Administration to go after sites like Free Republic for criticizing him.

Make no mistake, my comment wasn't flippant; it was sincere.

I was recognizing an obvious truth not presuming to grant permission.

I don't think discussing tactics for a conflict that hasn't started is probably a good idea so let's table that discussion. I know more than a little about weapons, and their destructive potential both modern and antique. There is no way that the Federal government could hope to pacify an uprising of even 10% of the (armed) population unless they were willing to destroy the nation outright. There would need to be at least a couple of decades of real civilian disarmament before they could even attempt it. I think you need to think this through a bit more.
Nobody knows who a future Churchill might be among the patriot masses, and as for being 'premature', what time table do you recommend, and how long should everyone wait to prepare?
People should start preparing right now if they aren't already prepared. Children should be raised in preparation. This is a fight we can only win temporarily. Do you mean to ask when we should retreat? Retreating before the first fight doesn't seem tactically sound if your goal is to take any ground.
If Romney ends up as the nominee, it will validate the suspicions of many Americans, which is that this electoral cycle is nothing but a charade, manipulated and orchestrated by the elites in BOTH parties, to the detriment of We The People.
Until you can present me some real evidence that people voted for someone other than Romney as Republican candidate for President but Romney still won, then the sad fact remains that while the voting populace is obviously so stupid to be considered borderline retarded, we still voted the guy in. We are Americans, since when did we start listening to the royals trying to run our lives? We are the ones that vote and if we allow someone like Romney to be our candidate with so many superior alternatives then we deserve to lose.
