Patriots Have Greatest Near-Miss Dynasty in NFL History: A Fan’s Analysis
Yahoo Sports ^ | 6 Feb 2012 | By Robert Dougherty

The 2012 Super Bowl ultimately went against the New England Patriots by 21-17, much like in 2008. Now that the New York Giants have beaten the Patriots in the final minutes for the second Super Bowl in a row, it has made everyone rethink the legacies of both teams.

New England should have the greatest dynasty in NFL history and even in sports history by now.

While Brady and Belichick still have their three titles, ... they should have six or even seven instead - and that has now started to overshadow the rings they do have. If New England had six or more championships in the last 11 years, it would be the greatest franchise in NFL history and one of the greats in all of sports.

Last year, the Patriots lost a golden chance for potential ring No. 6 when the New York Jets upset them in the divisional playoffs. It is uncertain if New England would have then beaten the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC title game, followed by the red-hot Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl. ...

The Patriots have now lost more potential Super Bowl opportunities than they have won actual Super Bowls, which instantly puts them behind the Steelers, San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys dynasties of old. Even if Brady and Belichick finally get their fourth championship someday, it won't mean as much because of those losses and because they still should have had so many more rings.

Oh you are one of those idiots. I really don't understand your thought process at all unless you are scared by some athletic failure in your own past and are oversympathizing with Misters Welker and Samuel. Or maybe it's your kid that dropped the ball, did he get heckled by the fat spectators? Maybe your best friend from HS fumbled in the state championship game and became a drunk? If it's not personal I don't know what possibly could be motivating you to jump in and start insulting a stranger. You are the one with "issues".

I was reading some thread about the recent UFC event somewhere. Some poster called one of the fighters a (w)ussy for his approach during a match. Some idiot chimed in with "I bet he could kick your butt!! You're real brave behind a computer screen!".

I am not a professional athlete, I didn't even play in HS, that UFC poster wasn't an MMA fighter.

That's not relevant. I'm a football fan, I watch the stuff, I'm giving my opinion as fan a which is not wrong just cause I never played the game. If you wanna argue the merits of your case that I'm giving them too much blame then that's fine, we'll agree to disagree, but that's not what you did.

Oh and by the way, Both Welker and Samuel ARE pros, they do this for a living, they know they should have made those potential game winning plays and have said as much, thus they agree with me.

Steelers have the dynasty, while apparently no one is looking, and Belichick will never have one. Fortune does not favor degenerates and freaks. Brady is going over the hill next season, and will never win another title. Belichick will be revealed as the run o' the mill bigshot loser of the big ones he has always been.

In how many trips? Excellence isn't just in winning, but in percentage.

Noll and Bradshaw are the most overlooked and underrated Coach/QB tandem in the history of the NFL. As for all time great QBs Bradshaw ranks right up there though he is seldom mentioned.

Completely agree!

I listed Bradshaw in my quartet of QB greatness. I think he gets overlooked because he comes across as a goofball. Personally, I think it's an endearing trait - he's a regular guy (or at least he plays one on TV).

No other head coach has won 4 SB’s, period. Noll gets the short end of the stick there too.

-—The future Patriots’ battle cry..
Well, we would have won if we still had Brady!!!-—

Maybe. We’ve certainly been spoiled. But my point was simply that the ‘84 and ‘97 Super Bowls were one era, and the other five were in the Brady Era.

Chad Johnson is going back to his real name, reportedly at his fiance’s insistence. She doesn’t wanna be Mrs. Ochotacoshell.
