Patriots Have Greatest Near-Miss Dynasty in NFL History: A Fan’s Analysis
Yahoo Sports ^ | 6 Feb 2012 | By Robert Dougherty

The 2012 Super Bowl ultimately went against the New England Patriots by 21-17, much like in 2008. Now that the New York Giants have beaten the Patriots in the final minutes for the second Super Bowl in a row, it has made everyone rethink the legacies of both teams.

New England should have the greatest dynasty in NFL history and even in sports history by now.

While Brady and Belichick still have their three titles, ... they should have six or even seven instead - and that has now started to overshadow the rings they do have. If New England had six or more championships in the last 11 years, it would be the greatest franchise in NFL history and one of the greats in all of sports.

Last year, the Patriots lost a golden chance for potential ring No. 6 when the New York Jets upset them in the divisional playoffs. It is uncertain if New England would have then beaten the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC title game, followed by the red-hot Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl. ...

The Patriots have now lost more potential Super Bowl opportunities than they have won actual Super Bowls, which instantly puts them behind the Steelers, San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys dynasties of old. Even if Brady and Belichick finally get their fourth championship someday, it won't mean as much because of those losses and because they still should have had so many more rings.

Chad Johnson

<snicker>

What a tool he is, and apparently not too good, despite what he might think (or have thought).

Let it go. The good news is Aberdeen scored 4 touchdowns on the Animal Planet’s “Puppy Bowl” last night. Go Aberdeen!

I used to be a Los Angeles Rams fan, which was kind of like being a Boston Red Sox fan before 2004. For several years, visions of Super Bowls danced in the heads of Rams fans as the team dominated its division, only to blow it in the playoffs.

Today, the only football teams that I follow are the Occidental College Tigers and the USC Trojans.

"And no Brady."

LOL! Patriot fans will be using that excuse for 100 years after Mr. Personality is long gone.

The future Patriots' battle cry..

Well, we would have won if we still had Brady!!!

I beg to differ.

In professional sports, the Yankees are the standard for excellence.

Nobody but NO BO DY comes close to my Buffalo Bills!

Four CONSECUTIVE Super Bowl appearances, four consecutive LOSSES.

No comparison.

The high altitude must be affecting you bro. Good thing the Gmen didn’t know the game was over in the first quarter since they ended up trailing 10-9 at the half.

The Broncos didn't lay the hammer down on the Giants in the first quarter ... they were anemic ... and I knew Simms would kick their butt if they didn't score early & often. The Broncos pulled the same BS against the Redskins the following year in SB XXII ... only worse, they lost 42-10.

No one expected Chad Johnson (I’m not gonna call him by his silly name, and you know what it’s Cassius Clay and Lew Alcindor too) to do anything. He didn’t all year, why would he is the Superbowl? Brady threw to him once just so he could have a catch in the SB.

Wes Welker’s drop= Asante Samuel’s Dropped Int from the last one. Maybe worse since Welker is a WR who is supposed to have great hands.

That poor bastard Bill Buckner has nothing on either of them.

He WAS good because he was fast. He’s lost a step they say. Without that extra speed he is of limited use.

While you sit in your wheelchair drooling...or even your lounge chair sipping your Shirley Temple....you've exposed yourself.

Which in and of itself...is something no one wants to see.....

And I think I will leave it at that.

Aw,come on———look at the Red Sox collapse last September.

It happens, but we stick with our teams.

I live in MA too.

Wait ‘til next year.

Look at this, real remorse amongst certain Punts players:

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/only-dance-heal-wounded-souls-matt-light-rob-212551396.html

Brady and Welker are getting killed up here. Sports radio and the 2 papers are on them.

Wes Welker = Asante Samuel. Great comparison!

Bill Buckner should have been taken out of the game for defensive purposes. His knees were well known to have been shot by this time in his career.

Ha!! No problem at all....just commented on your issues....and IMO uninformed observations.

Could not care less who won the game really....Thus no money wagered.

You seemed to have some very opinionated and pointed whining towards players that play a game. And I'd guess a game you don't play now. And if you ever did...you never came close to smelling that level of play.

IOW....you're an armchair QB. And have no first hand knowledge of what it takes to play a professional football game. Therefore...your observations are about like Madonna's....

LOL!!
