Donald Trump endorsed Mitt Romney for president Thursday, saying he's impressed by the Republican candidate's debate prowess and believes he could easily beat President Obama in November.

"Mitt is tough. He's smart. He's sharp. He's not going to allow bad things to continue to happen to this country that we all love," Trump said in Las Vegas, telling the candidate to "go out and get 'em."

The real estate mogul, speaking briefly with reporters before the announcement, said that even though he "never knew" Romney before the race began, he's come to know him in recent months.

"His general attitude and the last two debates were very impressive," Trump said.

He also cited Romney's position on China, calling the former Massachusetts governor

If nothing changes, it definitely looks like the whomever is sworn into office next year is gonna suck, no matter what happens.

>> Back when combover boy was leading all the birthers around by the nose, I told ya again and again and again that he was no conservative, but a crony capitalist who would sell out conservatism in a "New York Minute". Told ya so, birthers. <<

Yeah, early last year he was pushing the birther stuff and hinting at jumping into the GOP primary. I thought his fans here realized they had been scammed once he used it to boost his TV showing ratings on The Apprentice and then announced he wouldn't run.

Sadly, though, a few months later when egomaniac Trump announced he would host a candidate debate and possibly run a third party bid himself, they were STILL swooning over the guy and calling any candidate who threw his invitation in the trash a "coward".

A few days ago, Trump's fans on here were buzzing that he was gonna endorse Gingrich any day now and stop Romney dead in the water. Nope, they were conned again.

But you can't fix stupid. I bet he STILL has a bunch of loyal followers here who truly believe Trump is gonna singly handily take down Obama any day now by proving he's ineligible for the office. Joe Lieberman and Peter King supporters here will similarly claim there guy is a hero to conservatives no matter how many times he betrays them.

I’ve been leery of Trump as a wolf in sheep’s clothing since he started poking Obama’s BC issue. Now the cloak is off and the truth is out.

Re: Northeast liberals...yeah...it’s called “growing” in office. As conservatives move to the Washington/New York corridor...they “grow”. That is, they become liberal. It seems to be a problem with the human condition...we like to become like those around us. We like to fit in.

Remember David Souter...the “conservative” George H.W. Bush appointed to the SCOTUS? He was the deciding vote in Kelo...it allowed governments to take private property and hand it over to a private developer...something I don’t think the framers of the fifth amendment had in mind.

Remember how the liberal media congratulated him for his “growth”.

If Romney gets to Washington, I fear he has a lot of room for “growth”.

Trump could help RomObama in Nevada and NY state. Of course the fact that Trump works for Fox News could also have impacted his HAIR/WIG/RUG brained decision. Big money endorsed big money

What a joke. No doubt Newt was set up yesterday. Trump is an embarrassment either way. He and Romney are of the same cloth — in it for themselves. Romney didn’t even have the guts to attend Trump’s debate. Neither one has any principles.

Sorry, I did not see all of those threads. Haven’t been feeling that well.

I can’t imagine that there are 100’s of Freepers that would think that freak Trump’s endorsement would be a good thing. The only thing Trump would, maybe, be good for would be his money. I truly dislike Trump. Creepy little man.

I think they should come forward and take their walk of shame for even being the slightest bit happy about a Trump endorsement.

He is disgusting; as are his self-serving veiled threats that came with this endorsement. Personally; am glad he did not endorese Newt. Newts hands will be cleaner, for it.

While I think his endorsement is misapplied, I think it serves a purpose. If it keeps this asshole from clouding a much effed-up GOP nomination process with a third party gambit, then I say it’s a good thing. We can deal with it. His support to Mitt isn’t a blessing; Mitt, if he accepts it, can be tagged with all sorts of fruitcake connotations.

Newt, on the other hand, needs to take this in stride. He needs to stop his petulant attitude re: losing this contest or that, and he needs to stop being so damned self-assured about how great he thinks he is. He needs to court opposition females with more contrition and stop saying “Calista and me” - something that touting his conversion to Catholicism won’t help now. He is making it so hard for many people to support him.

I WILL vote for him in Georgia in March, but he isn’t helping the case.

1. On the one hand, the consensus on FR in those threads was that Trump’s (seeming) endorsement of Newt was, overall, good. On the other hand, many or even most comments pointed out that Trump is an egotistical gasbag.

2. Sure, now that Trump has switched?? to Mitt, you see a lot of sour grapes comments, but again, the grapes truly ARE partially sour. Trump truly IS a mixed blessing at best. (My comment above is that his greatest assistance to the GOP would be as a hatchet man vs. Obama. Don’t try to sell me on Mitt, please.) Everyone engages in SOME degree of “spin.”

Actually you are right. The people who have endorsed Newt are far superior to those endorsing Mitt.

I wonder where those Freepers on here who were passionately backing a Donald Trump presidential candidacy last summer have all gone?

I remember when Karl Rove was the balls around here. Same with Coulter, same with Hannity, same with Drudge, and quite a few others who have had their "time", then fall from grace on FR. I understand it's a fickle crowd around here, quick to deify or demonize, but please ... take your sanctimony elsewhere.
