Live Free or Die isnt just the official motto for a great state. As the 62nd Republican National Committee Chairman, I think its a mantra our party should live by. I hope that New Hampshire legislators will remember this slogan and reject proposals to strip citizens of their right to marry.
The party of Lincoln and Reagan should stand first and foremost for freedom. Its part of our heritage and ought to be part of our DNA. Freedom for Americans of all races is why our party was founded. And our greatest moments from the unbelievable economic recovery unleashed by lower taxes and less regulation to the fall of the Berlin Wall resulted when we promoted freedom.

I want to marry two girls; what about my rights?
Read Republicans should stay out of the bedroom - unless they’re supporting leftist causes.
ask Mitt about his grandpa’s marriage(s)
That does it. I’m smashing my computer...

Mehlman - here’s a guy with all the acumen of a sea cucumber. Phoney baloney.
NEVER!
well since he plays for the other team. probably explains much.
We have a mormon candidate who advocated for homosexual anything goes marriage. His faith had to outlaw polygamy to have utah become a state.
By advocating anything goes marriage, as he has, polygamy becomes legal.
Romney’s faith is not the issue, his lack of support for the federal marriage amendment and DOMA is the issue. Logic, not blind faith, establishes the societal benefit of normal marriage.
Mehlman is just a DC insider who should never have had the job or any job in DC.
I honestly had no idea how stupid this guy is.
“If we believe in limited government, how can we justify expanding the authority of the state to take away this most personal, fundamental right?”
Marriage isn’t a human right. It’s an institution. Love is a right. No one is prohibiting same sex love.
Well, it’s clear we’ve been doing a lousy job of making clear the relationship between morality and liberty; and perhaps an even worse job of publicly defending the notion of a non-state civil society.
Every idiot who asserts that the state arrogating to itself the purported authority to change the nature of a natural non-state institution that pre-existed any nation state (in this case marriage) is an expansion of liberty deserves to be b*tch-slapped, if not physically, at least rhetorically.
“Sixty-two percent of New Hampshire voters oppose taking away the right to marry.”
Granted that while I only live here, along with my wife, I can’t see that the right to marriage is in any way compromised by anyone.
All here may marry, if they can find a person of the opposite willing to do so.
But marriage has a very specific meaning, and it shouldn’t be misconstrued to sanction perversion(s). It doesn’t, and can’t be made to do so.
from the same bunch forcing Mitt Romney on us
and to think this clown while in the Bush White House was allowed to race bait us over amnesty and call us sexist over Harriett
he epitomizes the problem with the GOP
"Mehlman arrived at this conclusion about his identity fairly recently, he said in an interview. He agreed to answer a reporter's questions, he said, because, now in private life, he wants to become an advocate for gay marriage and anticipated that questions would be asked about his participation in a late-September fundraiser for the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER), the group that supported the legal challenge to California's ballot initiative against gay marriage, Proposition 8.
"It's taken me 43 years to get comfortable with this part of my life," Mehlman said. "Everybody has their own path to travel, their own journey, and for me, over the past few months, I've told my family, friends, former colleagues, and current colleagues, and they've been wonderful and supportive. The process has been something that's made me a happier and better person. It's something I wish I had done years ago."
Lincoln and Reagan, and their party, are for freedom. They are just not for undermining the foundations of civilization.
Oh, Ken. You left out TR. He would have been for this too.
Mehlman seems to conveniently forget one of the original purposes of the founding of the GOP was the opposition of admitting Utah as a state because of polygamy.
Is he related to Larry “Bud” Mehlman, late of David Letterman fame?
