HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) - The state capitol was the scene of two events promoting distinctly different ways of changing the way Pennsylvania’s presidential electoral votes are awarded.

Actor and former Senator and former Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson is part of a bi-partisan effort to create a compact agreement among states to award all of their electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote, no matter who wins the state vote for president.

Just a quick heads up all. Poster mvymvy is nothing but a pro popular vote troll reading from a script.

Want proof, look at his posting history. Want more proof, grab a key phrase out of one of his pre written responses and put it in a search engine and look at how many times its been posted elsewhere. We have our very own Ellie Light.

The irony of Hillary supporting this stupid idea is that if it was in place in 1992 her husband would not have won the WH.

I disagree. The constitution has a roadmap for what happens if the EC doesn’t elect the president.

The states where most of the voter fraud already takes place is mostly large population states and the fraud isn’t just for the president...it’s epidemic for the libs to hold onto state and local power also.

A national vote with your idea would always force a two round race. And once it’s always the GOP and Dem getting the top two places the courts would be used to turn it, eventually, into a more parlimentary style election.

If that ever happens conservatives will get shoved aside when left, far left, crazy left, loony left, insane left, etc. create a coalition government (the VP coming from a smaller third party, etc.) with Congress falling in line.

Well, this is one of those times I just have to say “I told you so.”

Warned everyone about John McCain’s good buddy Fred Thompson a long time ago.

With National Popular Vote, every vote, everywhere would be counted equally for, and directly assist, the candidate for whom it was cast.

That's called direct democracy.. and in case you're totally unschooled, which it seems you are in democratic theory (Aristotle), it leads to totalitarianism. That's why the Founding Father's (those who you work to subvert) created a Constitutional Republic. And it's the reason you are still free to peddle your nonsense. The folks here on Free Republic want to preserve our magnificent heritage not replace it with some hair brained fad.

The Electoral College is the last thing between us and the Red Death.

Who's got an address for this bozo?

He's one of the last ones I would have suspected would lurch over to the dark side.

Completely unworkable and mistaken.

Every vote would not count. All the left would have to do is increase turnout (or cheating) in the most populous left wing states like CA, NY, IL, etc.

Then they just have to go into certain cities in “red states” like TX (pad Houston, Austin and Dallas), or GA (increase voters in Atlanta) and the popular vote will always go to the left.

Scary map. We need to educate people in the Constitution.

Yep, direct democracy = mob rule. It is one of the most insidious forms of government ever invented. It is 2 wolves and a sheep voting on what’s for dinner.

You are discounting the aggregate of population size. That 19% you lament is only a small percentage of the whole but a large segement of actual votes.

That 19% in the states like NY, CA, IL, PA, etc. have more total votes that dozens of states combined. They alone can wipe out the entire votes in states even like mine - TN.

If they get enough in Houston, Austin, and Dallas to pad their national total they don’t need to win Texas as a state persay.

And almost all medium to large cities and counties even in red states lean to the Dems. Nashville, Memphis, Little Rock, Birmingham, New Orleans, Phoenix, Tuscon, Las Vegas, St. Louis, etc.

Why campaign accross a red state when all you need is to increase turnout in these cities to, again, pad your national vote total enough to win. No need to win states.

We need to educate people in the Constitution.

Michigan state rep Dave Agema is pushing for exactly that as a requirement along with the federalist papers and other important documents in Michigan schools. The regressives are enraged by it.
