The most telling moment of the debate was (Romney's) response to Rick Santorum's eloquent explanation of Obamacare's importance to the GOP's strategy ...and why giving Romney the nomination would be ...surrendering the high ground on health reform: "Folks, we can't give this issue away in this election. It is about fundamental freedom." ...Romney then uttered the most revealing words of the debate: "First of all, it's not worth getting angry about."
Obama's recent State of the Union address contained only three references to his "signature domestic achievement." This is, as Michael Barone puts it, "the strongest evidence possible" that the President sees Obamacare as "a millstone around the neck of his campaign."
After becoming Governor of Massachusetts... he signed a health reform law that later became the model for Obamacare.
Romney would also have us believe that he will repeal Obamacare in its entirety. ... During a recent interview one of Romney's most important advisors said, "We're not going to do repeal You can't whole-cloth throw it out...."
Romney's affinity with Democrat positions has not been limited to health reform, of course. He has, for example, often agreed with them on Second Amendment rights.
...abortion. He has changed his position on that issue at least three times....he said, "I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country.... Now... he's again "pro-life." How he avoids vertigo while executing so many pirouettes is anyone's guess.
It will, however, be very easy for Obama ...to exploit Romney's flip-flops...The reporters and bloggers ...will be reciting White House talking points. One wonders if, after his resultant loss in November, Romney will find this "worth getting angry about."

Oh come on guys Mitt said he was going to cut waste in the Defense Department so he can pay for Obamacare. What’s wrong with that? LOL
There was probably more “bipartisan support” for both the Fugitive Slave Act and Prohibition than for Obamacare.
Both of those earlier pieces of legislation fell by the wayside, quickly.
“Representatives” who refuse to represent the people eventually fall.
The only question now is whether they will take the country down with them.
How he avoids vertigo while executing so many pirouettes is anyone’s guess.

The mere fact that “electability” has to be raised shows there is a problem. No one has to spend time explaining how a tasty food is “good for you,” or how an attractive and popular girl “has a good personality.”
And no one has to spend so much time and energy saying candidate is electable if they are not deeply flawed.
If Romney is so damned electable, why does he keep losing primaries and caucuses not in his backyard?
One wonders if, after his resultant loss in November, Romney will find this “worth getting angry about.”

A Romney tantrum aint a pretty thing
Think George Romney, at the GOP convention, 1964
Dont worry...
Utah will give him 90+
and then boast that they are “the most conservative state”
Just like they did in 2008
There is a huge campaign for over six months now in the conservative media in which it has repeatedly been said that Romney is the most electable. The people have absorbed that in passing without reflection. It’s what the media is very good at...setting the tone.
Everyone has attacked Mitt’s flip-flops, his medicare fraud, etc., but they stopped short as if that were the end in itself.
The closure on those failings of Romney would be transitioning to the conclusion: This Makes Romney Unelectable.
His opposition has not done that, and now they are fighting a last minute battle to convince Florida voters about his unelectability WHEN that should have been the Conclusion to every single attack on his weaknesses in abortion, gay marriage, gun control, obamacare, crony capitalism, medicare fraud, etc.
Obama will clean Romney’s clock with this stuff.
talking Bush head on FOX this morning”Romney is much better and can beat obama, Newt will not be the nominee, he can’t beat obama”
HUH OK , s this is why you lot attack Newt so much, you can;t let us decide , no sirree , the establishment picks our guy and we just have to do what you lot say.
PISS OFF, it is still we the people and you lot up in the north east and DC are not better than the elitist in the Dem party
As articulate as Newt is, I don’t understand why this issue hasn’t been the focal point of his ads, etc. When I saw the exchange between Santorum & Romney during the debate, my immediate reaction was “that’s it .... Romney just lost the election to Obama” (if he were to end up the nominee). Santorum expressed it beautifully ... we can’t afford to give up this issue. Newt should hang this millstone around Romney’s neck every single day/speech. (One caveat to this comment .... I’m not in FL ... maybe he is doing this in speeches to the crowds, but I’m not hearing or seeing it so much in what I’m able to look at).
Or, maybe not. But one thing for sure, Mitt knows that both the Republican Vichy and the fascist democrats have given him the Republican nomination and he doesn't care about what the voters want. After all, it's not like he'll be looking out for the voters if he's elected.
On Dec. 7, 2005, the Romney administration unveiled the final orders. These carbon emission limits will provide real and immediate progress in the battle to improve our environment, then-Gov. Romney said in a press release touting Massachusetts as the first and only state to set CO2 emissions limits on power plants. (Jonathan Weisman, Romney Environment Push Is Fresh Target for His Rivals, The Wall Street Journal, online.wsj.com, 10/6/2011)
Is mittens going to use the same bogus excuse on this that he does romneyCare?

After all, it's not like he'll be looking out for the voters if he's elected.Precisely. If Romney takes the nomination, G_d forbid, it will not be because of, but in spite of, the conservative base. We will be actively opposed for 4 years while a progressive bloc of Democrats and a RINO White House continues the project of the Obama presidency.
Well, of course! It seems to be working with the 'sheeple' & the media so why not? /s
If I could guaranty a GOP Senate and a GOP house w more seats, I know this is bizarre, but obama might be preferrable to Romney since Obama would get nothing done in a second term.
If Romney wins - he peels off a few RINOS and gets all the dems and he can get all sorts of crazy stuff through.
This nation was conceived in individual liberty and this idiot says it’s not worth getting angry about. Says it all.
Only two issues with that in my mind (and I’ve been thinking about it) ....
1. Obama will never sign a repeal of Obamacare. The next President is the LAST chance to do it because it starts taking effect in 2013 in ways that will make it impossible to repeal later. Like a cancer, it will metastasize into the fabric of America & we won’t be able to get rid of it. Even now, some things have gone into effect that are going to have people squalling if Newt were to sign a repeal bill. BTW, I am convinced Romney won’t repeal it, no matter how many lies he tells that he will (while his advisors say he won’t) so if it’s not Newt in the WH, we’re screwed.
2. Supreme Court nominations. There will probably be 2-3 nominations coming up in the next 4 years. Ginsberg has cancer & one of the other justices said he wanted to retire but didn’t want to do it while Obama was president (whoever it was may not make it another 4 years). We have two Obama liberals on the court .... want two more Kagan/Sotomayors? Romney might be marginally better than Obama on this one.
Other than that, I agree with you. Romney will peel off Dems to vote with him because his agenda won’t be conservative.
Here’s a thought....and I had this same thought when the Republican Estabishment wanted McCain.....Does the Republican Establishment even WANT TO WIN??
I don’t think they do. Can’t beat the black guy...wouldn’t look good. Remember McCain pretty much saying he was PROUD that he lost to a black guy? Now I am NOT being racist here. I am just pointing out that there were so many things known about Barack Obama’s family and history but they didn’t use it. Now the ER’s want Romney because well, like them, he’s a candy as*! How about the guy who’s the Chairman of the RNC? HOW in the world did he get that post? He is complete softy! WOW!
The thing is...Romney CAN’T win without the conservatives and this conservative is not voting for him. I notice that Romney has been trying to look “strong” but now it comes across as completely fake. This whole election is becoming a big joke!
