Furious conservatives have taken to blogs and Twitter on Thursday to vent their ire against what they allege is a conspiratorial dumping of twisted and manipulated negative attacks on Newt Gingrich.
The target of their fury: The Drudge Report.
For the last 48 hours, the conservative Web site led by Matt Drudge has become a virtual campaign arm for Mitt Romney, featuring huge, screaming headlines about Mr. Gingrich and his past.
That prompted conservatives who support Mr. Gingrich to accuse Mr. Drudge of selling out to the Republican establishment — many of whom have come to Mr. Romney’s aid as the battle with Mr. Gingrich has heated up.
Ana Beavenhouser, whose Twitter profile says that she is “so right wing, my symbol is not the elephant … it is the WOOLY MAMMOTH!!” posted on Twitter:
@anabeavenhouser: Where the hell was all this effort into “exposing” a candidate when #obama was running? #Drudge is officially irrelevant now!
Across the Internet, conservatives questioned whether Mr. Drudge had become as much the enemy as the liberal media.

And many suggested that a new media elite — joined by the once-conservative Mr. Drudge — had banded together to keep Mr. Gingrich from becoming the Republican Party‘s presidential nominee.

Done! Said it’s my last visit to his site until he returns to even-handed coverage of the Republican candidates.
I never imagined I would see so many conservative friends turn into liberal pimps, but the Mittens mutts have made the transformation. It makes me wonder how long they’ve been wallowing in the scum.
Uh Yea!!!
1. Drudge aggregates the big news stories, each day. Floods, tornados, elections, polls, scandals, campaigns, etc.
2. He doesn’t write the stories, and he doesn’t censor the news.
3. That particular day there was a deluge of anti-Gingrich stories, so he provided the headlines and links to those stories, as he does with any other story.
4. Had the day unfolded with a deluge, even a plethora of anti-Romney stories, Drudge would have provided the headlines and links to those stories, as he does with any other story.
5. As you said, over the years DrudgeReport has been instrumental in highlighting stories that were important to conservatives.
The attacks on Drudge have been ridiculous.

No one is better for the agenda of GOP Proud than Mittens. He has a long track recond in Mass., public school kiddo sexual grooming and all!
If you love Drudge, stay with him. All I’m saying is vote with your feet, if you’re fed up with Drudge’s BS, as many on FR are. By the way, Drudge is NOT the only non-MSM site out there.

A few years ago here, there would be less criticism, and more defense of Drudge—along the lines of what I wrote.
Most adults have left; Lord of the Flies, now.
Never saw on Drudge the Video of Nancy Reagan.
That one think along would have Quashed the “Newt was an Anti-Reagan”.
Not buying it and have not been to Drudge since.

Plus (and most importantly for JimRob), he LINKS TO THIS SITE. It’s how I (and likely many others) found FR in the first place. I wonder how much $$$$ for conservative causes here has been raised by that link over the years?
I’ve got nothing to say about FAUX NEWS though. They’re a bunch of damn RINOs.
