Former Senate Majority Leader and 1996 GOP Presidential nominee Bob Dole just tore into Newt Gingrich with an open letter that violates Reagans 11th Commandment so many times, Bob Dole will be in the confessional until Easter.
...
.. Hardly anyone who served with Newt in Congress has endorsed him and that fact speaks for itself. He was a one-man-band who rarely took advice. It was his way or the highway.
...
Gingrich had a new idea every minute and most of them were off the wall. He loved picking a fight with Bill Clinton because he knew this would get the attention of the press. This and a myriad of other specifics helped to topple Gingrich in 1998.
In my run for the presidency in 1996 the Democrats greeted me with a number of negative TV ads and in every one of them Newt was in the ad. He was very unpopular and I am not only certain that this did not help me, but that it also cost House seats that year. Newt would show up at the campaign headquarters with an empty ice-bucket in his handthat was a symbol of some sort for himand I never did know what he was doing or why he was doing it.
...
The reaction from Camp Newt:
Its got to be on the top 10 list of the weirdest things hes ever written, Gingrich spokesperson RC Hammond told Talking Points Memo at a campaign event in Jacksonville, FL.

Weird, indeed.
heavily snipped to bring a few of the salient points forth.. with age comes wisdom.. sometimes.
Dole should stick to peddling viagra!! Loser!! Wimp!!
A badge of honor, coming from an electoral and campaign loser like Dole.
Dole would know about landslides from the inside, given he’s still digging out from his LAME campaign of mush.
And yet, somehow, the CONSERVATIVE part of me doesn’t think he understands any of what caused his loss...
Yup, Mr Jello Dole, you were such an outstanding candidate.
Go back to your rino-hole and stay there.
Forever.
I remember during Dole’s campaign being beside myself with frustration... we knew so much about what Clinton was up to in terms of corruption and criminality and Dole wouldn’t even hint at it.
I remember there was one moment during one of the debates when Clinton set himself up and Dole hesitated... I thought sure Dole was going to finally let him have it... and then, no. I knew in that moment the election was over.
OK,
What does Bob Dole know?
NOTHING!!!
Bob Dole is wrong on this. But he does know something about losing elections. So we should take election advise from a loser like him?
Please note, I am speaking only about his losing the election in ‘96. Bob Dole is a war hero and a great man. He just doesn’t have much credibility on this issue.
Many of us felt the same way about your campaign, sir.
we knew so much about what Clinton was up to in terms of corruption and criminality and Dole wouldnt even hint at it.

shades of McCain.
The GOP-E is kickin’ in the afterburners for Mitt..
"Bob Dole says Bob Dole knows about getting beat."
Dole is an expert on losing by a landslide.
Oh Geee... You are till alive Bob?... Please don't be a carter, SU and be quiet... Elizabeth!... get him some pills please!
Bob Dole should do tell Bob Dole to do the best thing he ever did. Retire to obscurity.
It they had wanted to sink Newt, all they would have had to do was endorse him.
“Bob Dole is a war hero “
For that reason, I will cut the guy some slack and ignore what he has to say rather than laying into him....
So now that the last 3 failed Repubs in the general election have endorsed Romney, is that actually an endoresement of Newt?
He still hasn’t gotten over Newt calling him “tax collector for the welfare state”.
When you are on the right path any compromise will just lead you into the fetid swamps of DC.
I'm sure a lot of those in Washington hated to see their cozy life of laws for everyone but Congress, books published with almost no text to launder union campaign funds and unlimited check bouncing privleges disappear under Speaker Gingrich.
You can bet someone else wrote this letter for him and held his hand while he signed it.
