CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. Rick Santorum kicked off his Florida campaign here Sunday by aiming directly at Newt Gingrich. Its great to be glib, but its better to be principled, the former Pennsylvania senator told a crowd of more than 200 standing in a hot parking lot of a strip mall in this town outside Fort Lauderdale.
Santorum dismissed the idea that the South Carolina primary reshaped the race into a Gingrich-Mitt Romney face-off. Saturdays results could very quickly be overshadowed by the Jan. 31 Florida primary, in which hes hoping to reemerge as a factor. You have three candidates who can be president. That wasnt the case moving into South Carolina, he added, referencing Jon Huntsman and Rick Perrys withdrawal from the race. Florida can now step back and say, Okay
who is the candidate that we here in South Florida should put our seal of approval on?

It’s not the bashing of Newt that I object to so much,
(most of these accusations can be easily proven untrue)
it’s the ugliness of his personal attacks on Newt supporters.
Isn’t there a rule against name calling and insults against your fellow FReepers?
.
No, those are not the rules. You are missing a huge part of the equation.
Almost all Newt supporters admit his flaws and problems. Almost all of the anti Newts pretend like none of the good is there. Thus, the pro Newt folks are, on balance, far more intellectually honest.
Plus, I might add, Santorum is acting like a little snot, whining about Newt and ignoring Obama. Newt meanwhile spends most of his time fighting liberals on behalf of ALL OF US. He is a man to the child that is Santorum.
Them’s the facts.
You might be right, I was just trying to be helpful and spell things out in simple terms. I don’t like seeing people zotted and I think if you follow the simple rules I put forth you will not get the zot.
I don't know why you are including me in this snarky little post. I am not the one that posted that sentence. Leave me out of your fight with C.Edmund Wright.
I bet you see Rick’s true colors and old ways when he gets out of the race and endorses the RINO Romney (like he did when he backed the PA RINO over Toomey).
They’ve been dropping like flies. Have worn a blister on my zot finger.
Thank you, sir.
Santoum is not the man to take down Newt—He doesn’t have the fire in the belly—Obama could eat him for lunch. He makes Mitt look good.
Gotta balance the half truths, hun:
“Santorum has consistently supported broad-based tax cuts and opposed tax increases either by sponsoring key legislation or by casting votes on relevant bills. Some high profile votes include:
Voted NO on the Clinton tax hike in 1993
Voted YES on the capital gains tax cut in 1997
Voted NO on a cigarette tax hike in 1998
Voted YES on repeal of the Alternative Minimum Tax in 1999
Voted YES on the 2001 Bush tax cuts
Voted YES to repeal the Death Tax in 2002
Voted YES to the 2003 Bush tax cuts
Voted YES to extend the Bush tax cuts in 2006”

Probably less than two weeks ago, I heard Santorum say that Newt was his friend. Sometimes supporters of candidates become more angry than the actual candidates. POLITICS is not for thin-skinned people!
It seems a lot of Freepers failed to learn anything from one of Rick Perry's strongest points. Respect the Tenth Amendment! We Iowans have the right to choose candidates the way we want to choose them, not the way the Feds nor any other of Obama's 60* states want.
Iowa chooses to let our more motivated citizens choose for the rest. We're not alone in this. Other states choose otherwise, with a variety of differences such as being variously open or closed to party members. This is Constitutional diversity. You may not agree with our methods, but you may not disrespect our right to choose them!
I don't agree with NH and SC that letting Independents vote in party primaries is a good idea. (I wish my state would limit party switching to 30+ days before primaries and caucuses, but haven't been able to convince my fellow Iowans of that either.) I'd say, use the laboratory of the Tenth to stage an "Independent primary" if they wish, open only to those so registered; the Framers never envisioned political parties and would be delighted to see candidates arising without them. But I respect the right of NH and SC to allow those minds, too muddled to choose a party, to choose within one.
*Obama's famous quote was that he'd visited 57 states, staff wouldn't let him visit Alaska or Hawaii, and he still had one more to visit. Seeing that Obama's spending has proven how high he can count; he should be credited with a 60, not a 57, state claim.
Yes, FR has a rule forbidding nasty personal attacks. I added the word “nasty” because I’ve been called all sorts of names, like troll, liar, Sarah-bot, etc., without filing a complaint.
For the better part, I try to ignore the majority of those posters, -— I never replied to the Newt bashing nuisance on this thread earlier tonight because I knew he just wanted to engage in a useless, juvenile fight.
I hit abuse or ping Jim whenever I think something is really over the line.
“I remember reading the same garbage that Bachmann was in the tank for Romney. Now Santorum is in the tank for Romney?Save this crap for the real enemy.”
At this time Santorum is attacking Gingrich, so Santorum is the enemy. He’s doing Romney’s bidding.
It’s not terribly important, since he will not win and be out soon, but maybe he should go out a conservative and attack Romney instead of the other conservative in the race.
“There was a Conservative revolt in 1997 and he was tossed out on his air because Republicans were angry at him for spending too much money.”
Oh yes, those great coservtive revolutionaries like Boehner, Delay, Scarborough....and after Newt balanced numerous consecutive budgets, forcing and willing Clinton to agree, after Newt the House turned into a ATM machine for pork and the GOP lost its Brand.
You are either ignorant to facts or a Rovian spinmeister.
just get out, you’re starting to make yourself look bad.....
You are so eaten up with your parochial pride that you miss the point, and frankly, I don’t have the interest to try and break through all of that emotion to make you see the logic of my point, which was purely mathematic and nothing else.
Newtisms will likely stand beside Yogiisms after this campaign plays out.
That sums it up. He doesn't have many of Newt's negatives, but he doesn't have positives like willingness to fight.
