Whoever is elected President in 2012 will appoint Supreme Court justices
January 21, 2011 | me

I recently saw a news article in which someone was appealing to disaffected liberals by pointing out that if Obama is reelected, he'll likely appoint at least one and probably two or perhaps three Supreme Court justices if he's reelcted. We need to keep that in mind. Roe vs. Wade could be overturned in our lifetimes if Obama is defeated. Two of the Republican appointees (Antonin Scalia and Anthony Kennedy) and one Democrat appointee (Stephen Breyer) are in their 70's and presumably would like to retire soon. Do you want Obama to name their replacements?

Yes, Obama has to be beaten. Even if the Republicans would re-gain the Senate, we would need more than a simple majority. There's no guarantee that "certain" Republicans would not vote FOR another Obama nominee. Murkowski would demand billions for her vote. Brown(if he's still there)might need to be bribed, also. Plus, a few others might end up as multi-millionaires for their "no" vote.

“Yeah, it’s that important.”

It might be THE MOST IMPORTANT, because judicial courts can affect everything else, when we have leftist judges who spit on the Constitution.

Bork won’t be picking anyone; he will give opinion on potential nominees. Yes, it is likely he will later quit in a huff, after learning he was nothing more than bait for Conservatives. Sununu will have more influence than Bork.

Romney’s first choice would be a Kennedy or Souter type judge. The only chance we’d have of seeing a better nominee would be AFTER he had ensured the status quo on the aforementioned issues with his first SCOTUS pick. Most likely, this better pick would come in his re-election year (a la Bush Sr.).

We can no longer let them play us like a harp. We know their plans, we know how they play the game, and we know all of their tricks. Romney is not someone who can be sold as a better option to grassroots Conservatives based on the idea of potential Supreme Court Justice picks. We know how this play ends, because we’ve seen it too many times before.

Roe vs. Wade could be overturned in our lifetimes

It's a nice thought but unfortunately, it won't happen. Google R v W and Stare Decisis......

I've stated before, we have the most conservative SCOTUS since FDR and yet nothing has been done to overturn R v. W. and there won't be.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg has had pancreatic cancer for a ‘long’ time now, I’m amazed that she has held on so long.

Pray that Obama doesn’t get to appoint the next justices! We MUST win this election.

Obama picking more judges is scary. However, I don’t feel very confident about mitt or newt picking judges either. Sorry. I am not sure how newt would pick. I wish I were. Though surely e wouldn’t put a sotomayor or so up there.

Its kinda irrelevant. Obama & his Justice Dept say that he can appoint people on any day congress isn’t in session (e.g., any weekend). The GOP doesn’t have the cojones to stand up to him on this. Even if he loses the election, he can appoint anyone he likes prior to the inauguration. Did anyone think about that?

I don’t believe that. - Kennedy has always been a “little l” libertarian type, thus his softness on homosexuality.

Looking at your posts you attacked every single conservative candidate and seem to like Romney. But I notice you hated Palin. Here is a post by you:
"... Reagan didn’t quit to make a boatload of money. Palin took the fame and cash and ran...although she did keep her fans on the hook for a bit to stretch out the gravy train."

The fact she was spending a boat load of her own money defending her self in court over fake law suits didn't bother you.

Vile is the label I would give you.

Good observation. I’ll bet she has the same “less virulent” type as did Steve Jobs. He might still be alive today, except that he opted for “natural” cures (nutrition, etc.) when he first was diagnosed — rather than for sound medical treatments.

The USSC appointments are the real prize.

I’d say that when it becomes clear the Big Ø is very unlikely to win re-election — for example, as might be indicated by overwhelming poll results right after the GOP convention — then a large-enough bloc of GOP Senators won’t let any nominations go forward.

I never knew there was a “less virulent” form of it. My dad had a ‘wafer thin, dime sized’ one removed from his pancreas and died within two years. I remember him jogging around the circle in front of their home....trying to get his strength back.

He had observed all good eating habits and was very active. Remember “Michael ?” from Little House On The Prairie? He only lasted a few months.

I’ve often wondered if Ginsburg, liberal as she is, has stayed in her position because of Obama. Some liberals surely must see ‘what’ he is.

IMHO, this is the most important election of my lifetime and perhaps all of ours.

When is the point in time, after which we are out of the danger zone of another appointment prior to 1/2013?

Just try and get a supreme court nominee appointed between now and Jan 2013!

Romney did not appoint conservative judges, in fact, only one quarter of them were even Republicans.

One out of four.

I can’t speak to Romney’s state-level judicial picks. I do know that, in some states, the governor has little power, effectively being forced to select one name from a (typically leftist-dominated) panel’s “list of three.” In other states, like CA, the governor has near plenary power. Anyone know how it was in Mitt-achusetts??

I asked this earlier and no one replied.
