I recently saw a news article in which someone was appealing to disaffected liberals by pointing out that if Obama is reelected, he'll likely appoint at least one and probably two or perhaps three Supreme Court justices if he's reelcted. We need to keep that in mind. Roe vs. Wade could be overturned in our lifetimes if Obama is defeated. Two of the Republican appointees (Antonin Scalia and Anthony Kennedy) and one Democrat appointee (Stephen Breyer) are in their 70's and presumably would like to retire soon. Do you want Obama to name their replacements?
Let's see...Obama will name flaming liberals to the Supreme Court...Romney named flaming liberals to judgeships when he was Governor...
We do not need a mittwitt in the office making friends with liberals by giving us a “moderate” judge. WE NEED NEWT GINGRICH!
But...but.....Jim!
Romney will appoint Pro-Roe Liberals like Obama, but I promise they’ll be former prosecutor Pro-Roe Liberals!
You know, the kind that he can get past the Democrats in the Senate, like in Massachusetts........
It hard to run this scare tactic against us, isn’t it? “Do you want Barack Obama appointing another Kagan, or Mitt Romney appointing another Souter?” Gosh, I’m just dying to rally around Romney now..........
I have a different reason for seeing Roe v. Wade overturned:
I believe that it would result in a spiritual revival similar to the Great Awakening that occured after slavery was abolished.
Most people who are considered for the appointment have been given FBI background checks as they’ve held other government posts, which makes the process easier than it sounds. As often as not, the President already has soemone in mind as his (or her) first choice.
“Whoever is elected President in 2012 will appoint Supreme Court justices.”
And yet another critical reason to nominate someone who is electable, who will bring out the base, and who will take the fight to the enemy (i.e., Obama and media). Newt.

You make a fascinating point and such a thing could come true.
It's possible that Romney still could pick Souters (and piss off Bork?, who has been scathing in his criticism, including in The Tempting Of America, of leftist, activist judges). I suppose it's also somehow possible that bork himself could pick bad judges, but that's really pushing it, to me.
I can't speak to Romney's state-level judicial picks. I do know that, in some states, the governor has little power, effectively being forced to select one name from a (typically leftist-dominated) panel's "list of three." In other states, like CA, the governor has near plenary power. Anyone know how it was in Mitt-achusetts??
Ah well. Here is hoping we get a conservative president instead of Romney. Then Bork can work for THAT guy!
Scalia is also 75 and may decide to retire if a conservative is president, but I don't think he would under Obama.
With the present Republican Senate leadership, they will bend over backwards to accomodate Obama to get any nomination through in the minimum amount of time. They are such milquetoasts.

Sorry about the double post. Sorry about the double post.
You forget who Team Romney is.
It is GUARANTEED that the best we’d ever get is a Kennedy, and most likely a Souter. The Establishment GOP does NOT want a fifth Conservative judge; they want a Pro-business Social progressive that will keep the status quo on the most important Constitutional issues of the day.
The Conservative grassroots is Pro-business, Pro-Free Markets, Pro-Capitalism, Pro-Life, Pro-Constitution, Pro-Gun, and Pro-traditional marriage. The GOP Establishment is Pro-Money, Pro-Fiscal Libertarianism and NOTHING else. They could ABSOLUTELY care less about ANYTHING else; and the only backers who are truly important to them are the Chamber.
If they succeed in cramming Romney down our throats, you can DAMN WELL bet they aren’t going to give us an INCH on any Supreme Court justices. Even with Bush in the White House, they tried to pass-off two Social Progressives on us (Miers and Gonzalez). They want rulings like Roe CEMENTED for another generation or two. We cannot fight Romney when we had to REVOLT to fight Bush. Team Romney will be COMPLETELY deaf to us, revolt or not.
Bork is the bait, and you can bet there will be a switch when the time comes.
If Newt is the nominee and loses, it doesn’t matter. We must elect Newt. We need a conservative voice. We must adhere to our conservative convictions- even if it means Obama is re-elected. It doesn’t matter about Supreme Court Justices. It doesn’t matter how many unborn children die. We must stick with Newt!
So you’re guessing that Bork is being exploited — and, presumably, will quit this judge-picking committee in a huff when his conservative picks aren’t, well, picked?
Nice shot, Jim!
Ginsburg is pushing 80.
SCOTUS appointments should be a major campaign theme. There are a number of cases currently working through the system to expand the scope of the Heller/McDonald Second Amendment (2A) decisions. So far, the lower courts keep ruling that Heller (and hence the 2A) only applies to handguns in the home.
If we lose one of the “Heller 5”, the 2A will likely be relegated to a very narrow right to “keep” a handgun in the home only. It’s already going to be difficult to get Kennedy to agree that the 2A applies outside the home (”bear”). If we lose one of the 4 conservatives justices, forget it. Those of us in corrupt “may issue” states will be out of luck for a very long time.
