Rising human carbon dioxide emissions may be affecting the brains and central nervous system of sea fishes with serious consequences for their survival, an international scientific team has found.
Carbon dioxide concentrations predicted to occur in the ocean by the end of this century will interfere with fishes' ability to hear, smell, turn and evade predators, says Professor Philip Munday of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies and James Cook University.

If the fish is affected, won’t those fish hunting them be similarly affected. Seems like net-net.

I believe the answer to this great “dilemma” is to train fish psychotherapists so they can get the treatment they need. Of course, they should be government employees...and unionized.

A couple of thoughts:
* Carbon dioxide is plant food. Won't rising levels of carbon dioxide in the ocean lead to more plants and thus more food for the fish and thus more fish? Maybe they're being driven crazy by the fact that there's so many of them. In which case, the best thing we can do for the mental health of fish is to eat as many of them as possible.
* Actual warming of the globe would also lead to more plants in the ocean. See above for proposed solution.
* The biggest actual problem of global warming according to the Warmmongers is that the polar ice caps might melt. This is a problem for land-dwelling species who don't breathe water and who own real estate at low elevations. But I don't think it would be a problem for fish at all.

Coal plants dominate list of Chicago’s biggest polluters
2 plants in Pilsen, Little Village constitute the largest source of local greenhouse gas emissions, U.S. says
By Michael Hawthorne, Chicago Tribune reporter
January 22, 2012
Fed by a steady stream of coal barges, the aging power plants that loom over Chicago’s Little Village and Pilsen neighborhoods are by far the city’s largest industrial sources of climate change pollution.

C02 is also what green algae and other small plant life feed on. And these are food for many reef fish.
CO2 is what ALL plants feed on. This is the problem with the whole greenhouse gas theory. It basically contends that heat, moisture and carbon dioxide is detrimental to life, when just the opposite is true.
What happens in a greenhouse? Plants grow rapidly and in abundance.

Phil, you're a moron. The seas have less CO2 in them now than they did 200 years ago because of outgassing of CO2 due to the warming up after the Little Ice Age. The seas have less CO2 now than they did during many, many very long periods in the earth's past and the fish did just fine then. And, Phil, if the fish are trying to "evade predators," which predators are they trying to evade? Squid, whales, porpoises, or other fish? Given that nearly all predators of fish are other fish, how are those other fish going to be able to exercise their predation if CO2 is affecting their ability to hear their prey, smell their prey, and turn to eat their prey?

The obvious conclusion to this line of argument is that the rising tide of human population will eventually kill off the fish simply by breathing.
Anyone who buys into this—and wants to protect fish— should show their solidarity with fish by immediately and permanently stopping their breathing.

Well Phil what is your degree in? The tittles of your published papers suggest marine biology. However the content of this article suggests that you have insufficient knowledge to be a marine biologist. So are you or aren’t you?

Phil forgot to mention that the oceans hold more CO2 when they are cold and less CO2 as they warm. If CO2 really caused global warming, this would mean that climate was in a positive-feedback loop and CO2 and the oceans would drive the climate into either a permanent ice-age or a permanent tropical environment.
Since climate appears to have fluctuated between these extremes over time, it means that CO2 is not the cause of global warming.

The temperature rise associated with global warming will also increase evaporation. With more water vapor in the atmosphere and the resulting increase in rainfall on land, there are those who predict that sea levels will fall not rise.

Carbon dioxide is PLANT FOOD
for the seaweed and algae that is at the bottom of the food chain for fish!
More fish food = more fish. Simple equation.

Nicely stated and further more——I have a treefarm. My trees need CO2. If these hide bound blowholes figure out a way to actually diminish natural CO2 I’ve always said I will start burning old tires until my trees look good again. I’m guessing this genius is a basement dweller who doesn’t actually get out much except to mail his green grant applications.

These poor fish can’t win — more CO2 they go crazy, less they starve— but did any of the greenies ever figure along the lines that maybe Darwin had placed those fish on the “obsolete” list?

Not so much.

Carbon dioxide concentrations predicted to occur in the ocean by the end of this century will interfere with fishes' ability to hear, smell, turn and evade predators, says
Professor Philip Munday of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies and James Cook University. This, this is a tragedy. But the good Professor has not gone far enough! Nossir!
Over the years, 12 Trillion Coke bottles and cans have been carelessly tossed into Mother Gaia's pristine waters by man. Each contains some amount of left-over Coke, a (gasp) CARBONATED beverage. The fish, drawn by the criminal sweetness of the flavor, ingest this CARBONATED material. The poor li'l buggers ain't got a Chinaman's chance!
The students of Professor Munday at the World-Renowned ARC Center have their work cut out for them. They must drain large oceanic bodies of water and clean them up. A suitable use for Stimulus Funds by my new NGO if I ever heard one.
