Santorum rips Romney over Romneycare

Something that has been lacking for the most part in past debates is exposing Romney’s continued support for RomneyCare. And Santorum does that quite well here as he casts Romney as untrustworthy. He also goes after Newt’s past position on Health Care, but the RomneyCare portion was most effective in my opinion.

So glad Rick Santorum covered Romneycare, and so forcefully.

FReepers really didn’t seem to like Rick tonight, but I thought he looked like a nice guy taking out the brass knuckles.

Conservatives complain that the Republican politicians don’t fight hard enough, but Santorum DOES, which is why he has a history of getting things done!

btw, ever notice that Romney and Ron Paul never attack each other, but attack the CONSERVATIVE candidates, like bull dogs?

people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.. Rick Spectorum calling himself the only pure Conservative in that debate last night was pathetically hypocritical

So you don’t want Rick Santorum to rip Romney on Romneycare?

Got it.

what does that have to do with Spectorum saying all night long he’s the only Conservative person left standing when he has a record a mile long where he left his Conservative credentials at the door?

Santorum acted like a petulant child thoughtout the debate.
My wife, who has little interest in politics was in the room for last night’s debate. I didn’t think she was paying attention, but after the debate was over, she said to me “ I know you don’t like Romney, but Santorum seemed too childish and angry to be President... we already have one like that. If those two were my choices, I’d vote for the one least like Obama, and that would be Romney”.
Thanks goodness I have her convinced to vote for Newt on Saturday.

I liked him ripping romney, particularly since romney doesn't belong in a republic debate, but ripping Gingrich pissed me off. Of course I support Gingrich, but he's not the enemy, even from the Santorum camp. It's romney and then paul. The leader we need should focus on our enemies, not our allies.

My wife said he sounded more like Michelle Bachmann. She was yelling at the tv after his attacks kept coming and coming...

I thought Santorum did a good job. Not perfect. When he was defending some form of SOPA he came across as pleading. He missed a chance to take a good and legitimate swipe at Newt. Newt wants to make this campaign about himself personally and that is a path to defeat.

Alternatively, Newt would have been my choice behind Santorum, but the way his supporters have bashed Santorum on this forum has completely turned me off to Newt. I seriously would consider Romney over him at this point with the way his supporters have ripped Santorum in order to get their guy the nomination.

JimRob has endorsed Gingrich. Santorum could hurt Gingrich. So it’s normal that newt supporters would go negative on Santy supporters. The fact is, though, that Santy is running for president and eeded to do what he did: come out with strong separation between him and Both candidates. It’s all fair, he’s got one big last chance. Let him have his fight.

“Optics” propaganda influenced your wife. Santorum is the youngest of the four so he already appears “freshman-like” simply due to appearance. Gingrich carefully cuffs him as a cub, Paul comes out and calls him a kid, and Mitt is condescending to all which for Santorum highlights the optics against him. All the other candidates know this is a tool they have in their arsenal to use against Santorum.

It is to a voter’s discredit that he/she not be aware of the type of “optics” that are uses by campaigners to draw a contrast between themselves and the other candidates.

The actual PLANS are what matters in casting a vote. Not how someone looks.

But if you want to talk about “optics” and you have said you are going to vote for Newt, what you are going to have in the debates against Obama is this: a fat, old, white guy that has a smart aleck attitude and will “optically” begin to look like a re-run of McCain’s “that one” stuff.

Yes, Newt talks a good game, but optically, he’ll be standing next to the poor, single-parent, black guy that just wants to work for the people and lift them up—and Newt is going to verbally beat up that guy and you think “optics” might not register???

Contrast that with “every day man Santorum.” He may not have black skin, but other than that “optically” Obama and Santorum match pretty well. Obama’s “poor black guy” spin will not stick so well against “grandson of immigrant” guy who says the PEOPLE have what it takes, not the government this guy over here’s been giving you for 4 years...and where has that gotten you?

You want to advocate for Newt because you think in the end, the war of words will win, but in the end, the average voter will be just like your wife, they will glance up for a moment and make a hasty decision based on what they saw, and then they will cast their vote. Newt isn’t going to win against Obama. Especially not after the DNC gets done throwing dirt. If Clinton could get Newt to back down, if Pelosi could get Newt on the couch, there is some serious dirt lurking that is going to rock the campaign.

Come on, South Carolina!!!!! Really think this thing through!! Don’t vote in vengeance for the guy that is going to say what you want to say yourself to Obama! Vote for the guy that is going to do FOR America what you wish you could do!!! That is Santorum.

Santorum’s answer on SOPA and his vote against right to work, along with his earmarks... killed him, if the folks I am talking to are any indication.

What did your posts have to do with the topic of THIS thread?

I’ll forgive Newt for endorsing RINO Dede Scozzavave in NY’s 23rd district, if you’ll forgive Rick Santorum for his mistakes (or perceived mistakes).

We should not hold that alone against Newt, but we also shouldn’t expect Santorum to be perfect either.

ALSO, Santorum endorsed Dede Scozzavave’s OPPONENT, CONSERVATIVE Doug Hoffman.

NEXT, let’s look at Rick Santorum’s REASON for endorsing Specter:

The Truth Regarding Santorum’s Endorsement of Arlen Specter
October 12, 2011

“The reason I endorsed Arlen Specter is because we were going to have two Supreme Court nominees coming up,” said Santorum. “I got a commitment from Arlen Specter that no matter who George W. Bush would nominate, he would support that nominee.”

excerpt http://blog.lisagraas.com/2011/10/12/the-truth-regarding-santorums-endorsement-of-arlen-specter/

Santorum said Alito would not be a Justice if it weren’t for Specter. Specter was very effective at being the head of the Judicial Committee.

OK, now it’s YOUR TURN. Care to tell me why Newt endorsed Dede Scozzavave?

Funny, but when I was listening to Rush today, he said his conservative friends said that this was Santorum’s best debate. Maybe Rush’s friends look more at substance than feelings, or personality traits.

But as long as you don’t vote for Romney, it’s OK, but PLEASE do some more research first, so you make the very best choice.

“I liked him ripping romney,..”

Well, it’s a start, but what’s wrong with Santorum showing Newt’s weaknesses, too?

Does not it bother you that Newt told Santorum to LEAVE THE RACE, even though Santorum won the first caucus, and was ahead of Newt in NH?

Would you like it if Santorum told Newt to leave the race? Santorum would not do that. While Santorum would make a better POTUS, Newt would also make a good POTUS, but I have to admit that I was P/O’d when Newt told Santorum to leave the race, and I lost some respect for Newt after that. Sorry.

“Didnt Santorum support Medicare Part D?”

Yes, and I did, too, at the time. We all make mistakes. However, I did write my congresscritter a note and say it should only be for VERY LOW income seniors, but even that was a mistake, and I admit it. Santorum and Reagan admit they have made mistakes, too, to their credit.

But if you think Newt hasn’t made some SERIOUS MISTAKES, consider this:

Newt called Paul Ryan’s plan to fix Medicare “radical,” while Rick Santorum embraced it, and said he wanted it to go even farther.

Newt was/is in favor of TARP and cap and trade, and pro-fair doctrine (but that was in the ‘80’s so hopefully Newt changed that position by now).
