REPORT: State Department (Read, Obama) To Reject The Keystone Pipeline
Business Insider ^ | 01/18/12 | Mamta Badkar

Posted on 01/18/2012 9:11:26 AM PST by MissesBush

The Obama administration is expected to reject the controversial Keystone Pipeline this afternoon, according to Fox News.

The State Department is expected to vote against the pipeline this afternoon. Transcanada will however be allowed to reapply with an alternate route going through Nebraska.

The administration will be unlikely to approve the pipeline under the timeline for the payroll tax cut extension law which requires a decision by February 21

The project has been extremely controversial for two main reasons. Those in favor of the pipeline point to the 8.5% unemployment rate, and point out that the pipeline could create much-needed high-paying jobs. Moreover, it would provide cash-strapped governments with tax revenues. On the other hand after the BP Deepwater spill of 2010 and ExxonMobil's July 2011 pipeline spill, environmentalists are pressuring the Obama administration to nip the project in the bud.

More to come...

Obama may have just lost the election if the predictions of gasoline approaching US$5.00/US gallon becomes reality by Memorial Day. That would cause a major spate of inflation, and Obama will lose the vote of "middle America" very quickly.

People forget that besides the Iranian hostage crisis, the energy crisis of 1979-1980 was heavily instrumental in bringing down the Carter Administration. If the price of petroleum products rise too high, it would have a really bad effect on the US economy--right in the middle of the Presidential election year.

Each day, the United States uses billions of gallons of crude oil to support our daily lives. While many forms of transportation are used to move this product to marketplaces, pipelines remain the safest, most efficient and economical way to move this natural resource.

This is especially important because often times crude is produced in areas far away from major marketplaces where population and manufacturing centers are located. Pipelines permit the movement of large quantities of crude oil and product to these areas with little or no disruption to communities everywhere.

The network of crude oil pipelines in the U.S. is extensive. There are approximately 55,000 miles of crude oil trunk lines (usually 8 - 24 inches in diameter) in the U.S. that connect regional markets. The map below shows some of the major crude oil trunk lines in the U.S.

The environmental and safety record of oil pipelines is excellent. Pipeline systems are recognized as both the safest transportation mode and the most economical way of distributing the vast quantities of oil from production fields to refineries and from refineries to consumers.

Heard of a US pipeline disaster lately?

Wasn’t it the RINOs grand idea to toss this softball up to Oblamo. He wacked it out the park as expected. What else did we think was going to happen . Miracle deal blew up in our face. Incompetence on both sides is gravely concerning.

1-What makes us so sure the US would see so much as a drop of that oil? It could immediately be put on the global market and China could out-bid us for it.

2-What’s wrong in waiting until a route around the aquifer is found? Fresh water supplies are becoming more and more scarce.
Thats all we would need is to destroy/poison the aquifer.

“Obama gives the Republicans a gift in an election year.”

No he hasn’t. No matter what the jerk does, he will be re-elected.

Hussein needs for the U.S. to continue to be dependent on his fellow Arab’s oil, so that we can keep on funding their terrorism. I’d say he’s a traitor, but he would have to be a U.S. citizen for that to be the case. Rather, he’s the “enemy-within”.

It’s an act of sabotage, with enemies of the US voted into power.

Not quite like killing 3000 Americans on 9/11, but kills 20,000 jobs, an economy killer.

Ultimately it kills Americans, because our dependency on Arab oil continues to fund Arab terrorism against us and Israel.

Unless you're able to steal an election. From Harry Reid's playbook.

I agree with what Beck said on BOR’s show last night: I will support whoever is running against BHO, including a shoe.

(Watched part of Blowhard O’Reilly last night only because the DH had DVR’d and promised Beck was on.)

EVERY SINGLE DECISION OBAMA MAKES IS INTENDED TO HARM AMERICA. PERIOD.

Looking at the RAS Daily approval poll this am, I would say most voting Americans are approving of this decision (I acknowledge that 3 three days have not yet passed since Zero's announcement, but my guess is that his approval will rise further in the next day of two).

I agree with you that every single decision is intended to bring America down. The Canadians are going to sell that crude to the Commie Chinese and Zero is ecstatic - he now gets the strong support of his environMENTAList backers, and he reasons the unions are never ever going to vote Republican. From my local paper this morning....
" Environmental advocates have made it clear that approval of the pipeline would dampen their enthusiasm for Obama in the November election. Some liberal donors even threatened to cut off funds to Obama's re-election campaign to protest the project, which opponents say would transport "dirty oil" that requires huge amounts of energy to extract.

Every single time he destroys America, he follows with “the Republicans did it.” I can’t stand communism much longer.

Oil is fungible.

Obama's State Department didn't say 'Let's wait'. Obama's State Department said HELL NO.

Are you actually left-of-center, as another Freeper tried to tell me you are?

Obama gives the Republicans a gift in an election year.

I just hope they have the brains to use it. They're so busy trashing each other, doing Barry's work for him that I don't see them making anything of this. I never thought I'd see supposed "conservatives" denigrating someone's success and complaining that, "....his money comes from capital gains taxed at only 15%.".

Newt should be using this as an example of our stupid tax policy, not trashing someone for legally taking advantage of the laws.
