Did he do enough to climb back into the race?
Huh?? Jan 11-12 ARG South Carolina Poll: Romney 29, Gingrich 25 (Santorum 7)
Newt has always been in the race. He's the ONLY one who can beat Willard. The right question is: Did Newt sway enough Santorum, Perry and undecided South Carolina voters over to him to beat Romney or not?
I think he did. Big Time!
Newt, as expected, had a really good night. He is probably back in the race.
That said, this morning he appeared on FOX and Friends and he was displaying his usual sold on himself behavior. I wish Newt could see that he can exude self confidence without being arrogant and self congratulatory. He needs to be a little humble. It is the difference between being admired or being disliked.
We see this in Obama and dislike it.
I know Newt is smart enough to control that, but will he?
Newt is competent. Obama is arrogant and incompetent.
Newt should be pleased with himself. Romney would never be able to take on a racially charged question without dissembling. Obama is counting on that to destroy Romney.
I want a fighter, not a lamb. Too much is at stake. This ain't beanbag.
Excellent debate for Newt Gingrich. Mr. Gingrich is our last, best hope to defeat Mitt Romney.
What is that word that Juan spoke, it sounded like “partickerley”?
I love it when Juan gets his butt rhetorically kicked!
Juan was being partickerley persnickety.
Just hearing Huckabee on Fox say that Newt had a very good night and Mitt was off his game and had several very rough moments. Was not impressed with Ron Paul.
In answer to your question, no, I don’t believe he did enough to climb back into the race. But, he certainly showed the Newt who could have won the race had he assumed this posture earlier in Iowa.
As to Juan, he is an obscene racist. He makes a living being a professional apologist for the black underbelly. And he is disgraceful.
I wish Newt had added, “Juan, if you want to join the debate, you ought to declare your candidacy.”
I hate to say it, but I think it's time for conservatives to coellesce around Newt. Personally I wish Cain were still in the race or that Santorum were doing better, but the fact is, I think at this point Newt is the only one who can reasonably be expected to stop Mitt. If it was close between Santorum and Newt in SC I might feel differently, but it isn't close. If Santorum and Perry supporters will read the writing on the wall and get behind the Newt, we can stop Mittens in his tracks - otherwise, the conservative vote will be spilt and Mitt will walk away with the nomination. It's really just that simple.
Going into this, Newt was not my favorite (still isn't really), and I know he has a lot of baggage, but I think he has proven himself in these debates that he is capable of going toe-to-toe with anyone. The idea that the establishment is pushing that Mitt is the only candidate who can beat Obama is just pure horse poop! I believe Newt would run rings around Obama in a debate. Newt isn't my ideal conservative, but I'd much rather see him than Mitt get the nomination and the simple fact is, he is the only one even close to being able to beat Mitt in SC and in the overall Primary.
That's just my two cents.
100%.
As you can see, I agreed Newt had a great night. I want a fighter too, but the people he talked to this morning weren’t fighting with him.
I also agree that Romney has a tough time when boxed in.
“Was Juan setting him up knowing how he would answer?”
After his own NPR “incident”, I think he might very well have played the devil’s advocate.
BTTT for Newt!
If Newt were the nominee, I think 0 would be too “busy” to consent to a debate.
I wouldn’t want to be him in a debate, even if I could add 50 IQ points to my intellect.
His worn-out liberalism is simply indefensible.
That is the best poll result I’ve seen for Newt. Some show him about 10 points behind in SC and far behind nationally.
I think he can claw his way back to the top but I am also a realist.
Great debate performance though-—no doubt.
